Amazon has backed down on its threat to block UK Visa credit cards from Wednesday 19 January

In a last-minute deal, Amazon has agreed that UK-issued Visa cards will still be allowed to pay for goods.

The US retail giant emailed customers in November last year to tell them it intended to stop accepting payments made using Visa credit cards. It cited the high fees Visa charges for processing transitions as the reason behind its decision.

A spokesperson for Amazon said, “The expected change regarding the use of Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk will no longer take place on January 19. We are working closely with Visa on a potential solution that will enable customers to continue using their Visa credit cards on Amazon.”
