As in previous years, HMRC will soon be ending email reminders to taxpayers who file Self-Assessment returns and have not yet submitted (for tax year 2024/25).

Their email campaign will be on the below dates, all to encourage submissions and payments of Income Tax by the 31 January 2026 deadline:

  • 11-12 November 2025;
  • 09-10 December 2025;
  • 06-07 January 2026; and
  • 20-21 January 2026

The emails will also include information on how to get help and support if they need it.

For Bookkeepers

Key messages for the Self-Assessment deadline and campaign materials can be found on HMRC’s Frontify platform.  ICB encourages members to use these messages and free downloadable images, as taxpayers need to avoid both late filing and late payment penalties.

An important link is the one to tell HMRC that there is no longer a tax return to be filed.  Unless HMRC is told there is no longer an obligation, their systems will be expecting a return and will automatically send a late filing penalty.
