It’s Mental Health Awareness Week, writes Graham Hambly, and research shows that people who are kind and compassionate see clear benefits to their wellbeing and happiness.

So, take some time out of your day and do something kind for a friend, a stranger, and even yourself.

Kindness could be built into business decisions, government policy, and official systems in a way that supports everyone’s mental health, says Mark Rowland of the Mental Health Foundation. He explains it also reduces discrimination and inequality. It can all start, says Rowland, by individuals committing to showing kindness in words and actions.

Even in isolation, you could look at doing something to support a good cause or do some volunteering. At a practical level, you could offer your expertise and support as a mentor for those who may be struggling, or you could offer a skill-share with a colleague via a video call.

The Mental Health Foundation has released a free mental health supporter pack. Check it out and see how you can get involved!
