Hi
Just wondering who everyone used for PII. I am using Trafalgar at the moment and my renewal is imminent. I have suddenly noticed that they have a £1000 excess on any claim which seem rather high. What are everyone elses experience and excesses??

Hi Catherine
It obviously depends on the cover - mine is for £250,000 professional indemnity and £5,000 of business equipment. The excess for PI is £250 and for equipment £500. I suspect the high figure on equipment excess is to prevent people claiming for a new computer when it is not working!
I like the fact that with Simply Business you can link the insurance schedule to your web site - if you take a look at mine you will (should) see this in operation.

I'm with Simply Business, they were much cheaper than Trafalgar and I've had a good service with them.

James
I have just put Trafalgar to the test via ICB Plus.
The quote was £201 with no business equipment cover and an excess of £1,000.
Obviously more than double my renewal with Simply Business who gave me better cover.

I have just checked the Simply Business web site for a quote for my PII and it came back at around £70. My renewal with Trafalgar is about £115 which includes a £30 policy fee (not sure what that is)

Thanks Geoff i have been onto Simply website and got a quote for £75 for the PII for the year. All three insurers they listed they are all £250 Excess so why is Trafalgar Exces £1000. I have emailed James the details.
Useful to know that you Sadie have had good service with Simply. What I do not like with Trafalgar is that it is all done over the internet and you can not seem to speak to a human!

James
I have sent an email to the member services address with my schedule.
Perhaps there is a difference when you dont use the quick quote which is where I got my figure from. The turnover is a ball park figure.

Hi James
I have also just gone on line to Trafalgar and tried to get a quick quote as I am tring to get my PI insurance to send with my Licence application. They have also quoted me over £200 as per Geoffs reply.

Hi
I also go with Simply Business, have done for 3 years now, the excess and price difference were the main reason.
I am sure most would agree that a £1000 excess would be hard to find if we needed to make a claim.
|
|
I also found Trafalgar to be twice the price of the other quotes that I got. I went with MoreThan Business, for just over £100, and the Trafalgar quote was £240ish (can't remember the exact number!)

I too have found Simply Business cheaper. My renewal with Trafalgar was £131 and through Simply Business £99 I didn't realise about the huge excess with Trafalgar - so thanks for that one!

Just to let you all know... and give credit where it is due.
I have received a cheque for the difference in policy prices and £25. It does work! Really pleased. So thanks James for posting and thanks Parliament Hill for dealing with it so quickly.

I have just renewed with Trafalgar and am very happy.
They have changed their exces to £250 now and also price matched a £80 quote with simply business from their premium of £250.48.
I was amazed too that they honoured their price promise and gave me a further £23 discount for finding the insurance cheqper somewhere else. So a premium of £53.86! for their premium insurance cover!

Well after reading the posts on here I decided to check out Simply Business and am amazed, I always stayed with Trafalgar as they are backed by ICB BUT with SB I was quoted double the professional indemnity limit for 1/3rd of the price !!

Ami @ ICBsaid:
“Hi Shazza,
Don't forget if you get a better quote Trafalgar will match it and give you £25, until the 30th! (see previous post)
We have spoken to SB to see about adding them to the list of providers, just need to check the levels of cover etc etc.
From what I understand it is a fairly new offer that is so cheap, and seems to be available only if you have been trading for a few years.”
The post above is pretty old (March 2011) but I am hitting the same problems! I want to move away from my current insurance providers (HGI, used them since I started in 2004) and got a quote from Trafalgar at £290, can get same on Simply Business for £144! Not sure what to do - the paperwork is so longwinded and I can't see if I have what I have missed - same excess, same levels of cover.... If the ICB are still linked to Trafalgar, then they don't seem to be offering the best deal. Can anyone advise who they are with and if they found anything different from what Trafalgar offered?
Appreciate it!
