Hi

I've been trading since April 2009 and have had no need to operate any of my clients via computerised software other than excel - I need to pass the Level 2 Computerised exam by 30 September 2011 to comply with the ICB - has anyone any advice about which software is easy to pick up and cheap???? - I envisage only using it to pass the exam.  I do use SAGE Payroll which I find straightforward so do you think SAGE Instant would be an option?  Any advice would be appreciated.

Ami @ ICB said:

“Hello there (both of you),

As far as we are aware, the current Free Sage trial version will not be sufficient for the examination because it does not permit printing out of reports which is a key component of the assignment.

It might be better for you to try a free trial of an online software package.  There's lots of good ones out there but Fusion Accounts has approached us to offer an extended trial of their software so you can use it for free for at least 2 months.

Online software packages like Big Red Book, Fusion, Kashflow, Xero are designed to be user friendly  for the non-bookkeeper so should be more intuitive for you and faster to pick up.

The ICB's own online software (ICB Accounts Online) is a super hefty package designed specifically for bookkeepers and accountants and is more suitable to the experienced software user and is aimed at practices with lots of clients.

Hope that helps.”

Thanks Ami - I have managed to get a 'free' copy of SAGE Accounts 50 with a 180 training passport - so as long as I can do it in the 180 I should be fine - but I'll certainly have a look at the other ones - thanks again

Hi,

I've just finished using Fusion to do my Level II exam and I'm a bit concerned in a few areas.  One fundemental one is that the TB that it produces doesn't add up!  Thankfully you can export the TB to excel and there I resummed it (if there is such a word!)

I decided to use this software based on this posting and the fact that Fusion's home page gives one of the reasons for that bookkeepers should use their software is that 'Fusion Accounts is accredited by the ICB'.

I've used computerised accounting systems for 20 years and I'm just hoping that I haven't missed any other errors with the software which will cause me to fail the exam.

I'd be interested to know if the ICB really has accredited it.
