I am studying with Ideal Schools and I'm ready to take my online mock exam which they have ordered for me today. Does anyone know how long it takes usually to get the email from ICB with the details.

Thanks

I have done my studies (and so far 5 exams) with Ideal Schools - they overprepare you for the exams, so you'll find them all a piece of cake.  Good Luck!!

Hi

I sat my Level 1 Mock at the weekend and returned it to my tutor at Training Link who passed it on yesterday morning.

How long does the marking tend to take?  I was hoping I'd get it back and be able to do the proper exam this week as I have the week off work.

Thanks.

Hi all,

today I have passed my level 1 exam but with a low score unfortunately! It would be better that I

repeat it for my career?

Any advice will be welcome!

Hi Sabrina.

I think it is important at this stage for you to appreciate that you have passed rather than worry about the mark. The ICB sets very high standards and even some of us who have been in the profession for many years cannot achieve the marks that we would like.

It is the level I and is your entry into greater heights. You would probably benefit from your ownreveiw of your coursework to try and identify where you may have lost marks and make sure that you understand the concepts - for no doubt the same underpinning principles will come up again as you progress.

This does overlap on to the subject of qualification v experience  and your qualifications alone will not be enough for the long term future so if you can get some experience as you progress then the real life scenarios will hold you in good stead and also help you get the higher marks that you desire.

Good luck.

Hi Geoff,

thanks a lot for your answer and your encourage. Anyway I'm really thinking to redoing it because I'm Italian and even if in Italy I worked as accountant I think it will more difficult for me to find a job if I don't have an high mark!

About my errors however tomorrow I will call ICB asking if is possible to have the right answer, otherwise I cannot understand  for which reason I wrong them!

HI,

I took my Level 1 Mock yesterday 96% distinction. So stupid I did not go back and check my answers - was too excited lol. I wanted to sit the real thing straight away but my dad said I should refresh for a week and then sit the real one with a fresh head. Good Advise I think.

Two questions - Does anyone know if it is possible to do the exam on an IPad (not thrilled at the thought of this but my husband keeps telling me its possible?

and

Once you have passed the exam, do you then contact ICB to upgrade your membership to Affiliate Member, if so do you just pay the difference in membership fees or the whole new fee again.... As I only registered as a student about 2 weeks ago?

Look forward to and appreciate your responses.

Thanks Tina

Hi James,

Thank you and thank you for getting back to me re the IPad, not sure if its worth the risk.

Just incase you are considering getting an IPad my advice would be don't, they are great for surfing the internet etc but you cannot transfer information to any other computer that is not "Apple" so for business/document use they are a bit rubbish in my opinion and the pop up keyboard like on an I.Phone is a nightmare if your trying to do something quickly. I would not waste money on one, my husband loves gismos and spends hours on the internet so its ideal for that purpose.

Anyway rant about the IPad over ha ha.

Thank you kindly for your help, I think I will stick with the safe option and use the computer at my folks with broadbank do there's no problems.

Best regards Tina

HI,

Have you got the ICB Level 1 and 2 book that they sell online? as I did my course for level one from home but found some of the course material just did not explain in enough detail. I found the book invaluable as there are senarios, and numerous trial questions that I found fantastic and completely understood.

I would post your query in more detail explaining exactly what you have done and where you are struggling, if I can help I will but I have only completed Level 1 exam at this stage, but plenty of more qualified people will respond also.

Definitely by the book though its a real help. Maybe you need to be looking at it a bit differently and I think the book will assist with that. I don't have shares in the book by the way ha ha ha.

No problem at all. It is only one book by the by, but it covers level 1 and 2 basic bookkeeping. Tina x

Hi -  I noticed that it says you can only sit the mock once? Does this mean that you cannot buy it again to practice on if you want to?
Thanks :)

No, it would be of no benefit to sit it over really. The best thing in my opinion is to buy the printable version and work through that before you attempt the online mock. That is what I did and I ended up achieving 96% on the Mock and a week later took the real thing and acheived 98%. So its well worth getting the printable paper Mock as well as taking the online Mock.

Also a bit of sound advice when you do sit the mock make a special effort to use the time left to go back over all of your answers as I didn't on the mock and made some really stupid mistakes which was frustrating, also do the same when you sit the actual exam, I did that time and realised I had got completely muddled on the very first question which "had I have not gone back and checked" could have ended in failure. Thankfully I learn't by my first mistake quickly.

Hope this helps

Tina

Is there anywhere you can by peoples old books x

  • # 70623

Yes I think amazon do new and used and also if you look on ebay I am sure someone may be selling it just check it is the current version. Failing that you could ask your local library to order it in for you to loan which would cost you nothing.

I am not sure if ICB allow people to advertise material on the forum but might be worth emailing them and asking as they may be able to guide you in the right direction.

Hope this helps Tina x

Sorry, also you could call your course provider.... I ran out of tutor support before I actually got round to doing the course so needed the extra supplement book as a backup. Apologies Brian not trying to lead your students astray, once I have sat my level 2 I will be in touch with you for Level 3. Sorry again. Tina

Also, incase that email is read wrongly my course provider was Home Learning College whom I would not use again.

Hi Tina,

The advice you offered Heidi was great and I never felt for a moment that you were leading her astray. I feel it is always important that students are aware that, as students of Ideal, they have our help available.

I wish you well with your Level II studies and exam and I hope you get the result you're looking for.

I must say that I am extremely pleased with the support I get from Brian @ Ideal Schools he is very helpful and quick at responding - I just seemed to be confused with the Mock Exam - Lee Crescent and the VAT side -  other than that I feel as though I understand the rest - I really appreciate all the help and support from everyone - Thankyou - x

Hi
I am currently studying for my Level 1 and would like to attempt the on-line mock paper. Please could anyone advise me on the question format of the mock exam. Also, are the mock results recorded ? should you want to 'have a go' so to speak just to get the feel for the type of questions and for answering the questions in a timely manner.

Many Thanks
