I also live in Salisbury and it would be good to hear from local members, anyone going to the CPD meeting in Southampton in june?

Hello all. Thanks for the hug - I needed that. I don't think I'm going to the CPD in Southampton - unless I manage to get some work to cover the costs in going. I've been flogging myself to anyone who will listen for two months now, but still no clients.
Went for an interview in Salisbury yesterday, 14 hours per week at Drs surgery. They wanted an employee but are trying to see if they can take me on s/e if I am successful which would be cool.
I'm also (hopefully) seeing a prospective client next Tuesday, friend is s/e bookkeeper looking to offload a Ltd co, as she's just had a baby, and three little ones under 6 leaves her a bit short on time, so fingers crossed.
Regards Andrea x

I am actually thinking about going. Not sure how many people from our region would be there as Southampton comes under south east. Can't make Bath, as hubby is a retained firefighter and he's got drill night on Wednesday. If you're up for going - would you consider a car share? My Volvo is very thirsty these days and it's quite a trek. Don't mind driving, but splitting petrol costs would be a bonus. Any other members from this area who are thinking of going, please chip in on this thread....

Yes a private message facility on the forums would be useful. Easiest way is probably to go to BT directories and search for "bookkeeper in Amesbury". I should be either number one or two on the list I think. Or you can search for me on LinkedIn.com There are links to my website on both these pages, where you can pick up all my details. Sorry to be so cryptic, but anyone can view these forums and I get enough spam without sticking my email everywhere. Unfortunately Googling me brings up a country and western singer in the states. (Think I'm still on 1st page of Google though). Just have a play, I'm sure you'll find me. Andrea

I would be really interested in a local branch meeting or just all meeting up every so often. Please let me know if we manage to get anything sorted, I am rubbish at organising things at the moment as my husband is pulling 80 hours leaving me to juggle everything.
Let me know what we could sort out though.

I'd be up for a meeting in Salisbury, I know a couple of other ICB bookkeepers locally who are also up for an informal get together.

...we definitely have the makings of a branch and I will support the first meeting. We need a venue, no cost or low cost as the branch will need to be self financing, a date and time, and then we can advertise on the forum and on the Events page. Paul - have you any venue in mind?

If we are thinking of an evening, perhaps a quiet pub or hotel somewhere in town. Not sure where as I haven't been into Salisbury's pubs for a few years now, so I don't know where to start. If we are looking at daytime, perhaps somewhere like the "Old Castle" where there is plenty of free parking.

I was thinking Harvester like Andrea suggested, but not sure what seating is like for meeting, depends how many of us are attending, or the Brewers Fayre (probably not called that anymore, premier inn possible) over at Bishopdown farm, again free parking.
We need to know what time suits everyone, for me any evening except Friday, or anytime on a monday or afternoon on a Friday.

Technically I'm Dorset branch as based in Bournemouth, but am quite often in Salisbury, so would be great to join in.
Daytimes are better for me and not Tuesday pm. Monday PM would be perfect.

Hi All I am going around Salisbury tomorrow to investagate a suitable place for both occassions day and evening, I will look at the suggested places i.e harvester and Brewers fare now table top. There a few more options to look at!
Looking at the forum, counting quickly a rough count there is at least six of us interested in meeting up, so I am sure there will be more!
I will get back to the forum tomorrow with the results!
If you there is anything I need to know or questions, you can call me (details below) or my mobile 07788 437405

Thanks Paul.
I am hoping for an informal meeting. I'd like to meet up and have a chat with like-minded bookkeepers over a coke and a bag of peanuts. I'm not looking for structured meetings with guest speakers and having to pay to cover meeting rooms and tea/coffee etc. Maybe this sort of thing we can look into later if it is what people want, but initially I'd like it informal.
Just my opinion, if anyone has any comments or suggestions on this subject, please feel free to post what you think.
By the way, Monday afternoons are good for me too. I can't do Weds evenings, but any other evening should be fine.

Yes Andrea,
I was thinking on the same lines To find a suitable place for an informal get together and have information for a structured meeting if there is interest, (killing two birds with one stone, so to speak!) this could be part of discussion in person.
I will get back to the forum with the best place to meet and then plump with day and time!

Hi - may be worth informing Mathini of the ICB Events Team - we've had a couple of informal gatherings in Dorset/Hampshire and Mathini has set up a formal invite process (no idea how) for the next one - think it just widens the reach a bit so may get more attendees.
Just a thought - not sure of the contact details though.

Hi Lou
Nice to see you on here. I was starting to think I was the only one on here tonight. (I don't have a life).
I've finished working at the school now so I'm a bit more flexible now - how did it go with the accountant we were discussing the other day, have you had a chance to follow up with him yet?

Hi All Have been in contact with Ken Ball, Head of Regions. He has said that they (ICB) are very keen to have Branch meetings in every County and we have the makings of having a branch in Salisbury if we want to and he will on behalf if ICB will support. So look out tomorrow, once I found a suitable place for an informal gathering day and time will be plumped for.

Meeting him on Monday - getting some feedback on my first piece of work and hopefully will lead to him giving me some work. Am getting flyers printed and have some networking events to go to next week, so fingers crossed will have some new clients soon.
Hope to have coffee (and possibly cake) soon.

Just popped in to say hello, this forum is seriously addictive! BTW have you thought about joining us in Ringwood on 21st Feb, or is it too far for you?
Kind Regards,

Informal not a problem, no need to call in outside speakers or pay for rooms initially, but you do need an organiser or branch chair. The problem of formal v. informal arises when the number of attendees gets into double figures and the venue and the format becomes an issue. Certainly for the first meeting it will be about meeting like-minded bookkeepers who live in the area and about sharing experiences, ideas and learning from each other. Those who attend will develop the group to suit their needs, but within a general ICB framework.
A simple agenda for the first meeting could be ---1. Intro from chair/KB. 2. Member/student intros around the table. 3. Future meetings --- where/when, frequency, topics for discussion. 4. How to use the group for support & professional networking. 5. AOB & date of next mtg.
I would be happy to attend the first meeting of the Wiltshire branch and await developments.

Hi Linx,
I can't make the ringwood meeting as I'll be away on that day. Ringwood is a bit far for me coz I'm a few miles the other side of Salisbury and hubby is retained firefighter and is on call a lot, so I'm quite limited to time. Hopefully, if the Salisbury meetings take off then perhaps we can have a joint meeting somewhere in between at some point.
Hi Ken,
I see your point about having an agenda, maybe that's something Paul may want to try for the first meeting as he has been in this game for a while, just so we have a starting point. It's up to him, though, Paul, let us know what you think. I would volunteer but I've only been bookkeeping a few months so I'm hardly an expert.

Hi All
I have two possibilities of venues with a further one which I need to speak to the owners tomorrow.
Table Table Salisbury (old brewers fayre).Outskirts. Table in a secluded area. Only charge will be food/drink etc; open 11.30-evening. Own Car Park.
Pheasant Inn Salisbury. City Centre. Meeting room. Chargeable at a resonable rate (compared to some branch meetings) and alot less then the larger corporate hotels. Public Car parking nearby (free in evenings).
The other is on the outskirts. Meeting room. Own car park. Waiting for details.
Depending on outcome tomorrow, it could be the Table Table initialy and then may be look at the other two for another occasion.
ICB are very keen to have more local meetings with a corporate image, providing it is self financing, and in return we will have their support. So I sure this the way forward.
Let me know if I have missed anything or have any questions.
Update tomorrow. Paul

Hi - have you considered the boathouse? I used to organise team meetings in their upstairs function room and they used to let us have it for free (although we were ordering quite a lot of coffee etc) - all fairly open plan and can be a bit noisy if there are presentations, but for informal meeting could be good. Right by the central car park, although not free parking!
