Hello.

I am at the same stage and also considered sitting both the level 2 papers at the same time, but i got a shock on 2010 past paper. It has been a really long time since I had to manually write out a Profit and loss account and Balance sheet, also having to manually write up T accounts.Wink.
I think I will be looking at more past papers just to get a grip of exam terminology and layout.

I have just downloaded the computerised past paper so I will look at that in due course after I have another stab at a second manual paper.

I was really impressed with the Fusion software, I will be downloading the trail to see what it can do also to sit my examSmile. But as I am just starting out I think it is a really good way to keep my overheads down to a minimum, the first year is so much cheaper than buying sage and getting their support.

I am sure you will be seeing me around.

Hi Liz

Did not realise that you are almost my neighbour. Do you go to any networking meetings? I am off to the 4N Meeting in EK in June.

Just haad a look at the computerised paper and it looks quite a bit easier than the manual paper. I use sage every day as it is so I might sit this one first and go back to the manual.

Hi Guys

Thank you for your response.  I am getting my head round level 2. Accruals and pre payment P&L account just a bit more complex, i haven't even tried to attempt to Manually write out my own T account yet. I think i will attempt Manual before computerised. One thing at a time.

No i haven't attended any networking yet. Where about are you in EK Peter?

Ghislane

I am just with in the Glasgow boundary.

I can understand what you are saying about accruals and prepayments eventually they will become second nature to you and you will be rattling off your accounts accruals and your rental prepayments. before you know what has happened. LOL.

I take it you are not from an accounts back ground?

The course is easier if you have had prior working Knowledge of accounts, but as I found out this week many years experience makes you lazy and you forget what an examiner is looking for.

Hang in there and I am sure you will get it. I can vouch that there is nothing like working for yourself.

No i have no real accounts background. My husband has he's own business which i have been maintaining he's accounts via Collins book.  Which is nothing like professional bookkeeping as i am now finding out.
I do eventually want to work for myself but i feel i definitely need hands on experience. I see you have had many years experience as an Accounts Technician, Congratulation in making that brave decision in the world of self employment. When are you planing on taking level 2 exam?
Who are you studying with? is there anything you want to specialise in? If i complete level 2 i will go for level 3 and maybe payroll ?? want to get as many ties to my bow as possible.        ( thats if i complete level 2 lol ) Smile

Hi Ghislane
What you have been doing for your husband is bookkeeping, but you have not realised that there is a science behind filling out the book.

In my time I have seen a lot of wife’s that fill in the accounts book and then at the year end they hand it into their accountants. As you can imagine back in the office it was always fun to see what we were getting next.

I have not yet decided when I will be taking the next exam but I will imagine it will be sooner rather than later. The computerised one does look easier to pass but only because I work with bookkeeping software every day.

I am not planning on taking any courses as I feel I have all the background knowledge to pass the exams. All I have to do is learn what the examiners are wanting from me, e.g. Terminology  lay out etc. so I think I will sit a few past papers just to get me back up to speed.

Not really thinking about specialising just now, but the one boom area will be doctors sergaries, with the on-going overhaul of the uk’s NHS, so it might be a possibility.

Like you I want to go all the way to the top and hopefully become a Fellow, but I would be more than happy to get my practicing certificate for starters.

I can imagine.. i'm going to feel rather embarrassed handing the accountant my book.

Well at least you are on your way up, you have the experience and knowledge once you gain your certificate you are on your way.

Good luck in your exam ( but im sure you will be fine )

Hi Liz

The 4 N is 4 networking http://www.4networking.biz/ It is a breakfast meeting where you going and pitch your business and meet other business people. It is something I have to do since this business is all about the people you meet and word of mouth. You get to go 3 times for free and they seem like a friendly bunch.

Unfortunately I will not be comming to the meeting this thursday as the 4n meeting was booked before I had seen the post. I would however like to come to future events. Can I subscribe to an email list that will keep me upto date?

Where do you want this new thread posting. General chat??

Let me know.

Hi all!  I'm just starting out on level 2, too, and am in a similar situation to Peter, having worked in accounts for quite a few years.  I'm doing the manual side with past papers, and bought the text book for a bit of extra revision, and I've just downloaded the computerised past paper to see how much study/revision I need to do before I tackle the exam.

Looking forward to seeing you all around here, and hearing how you're all getting on.  Smile

Used to love going to those type of things Smile  General chat would probably be good then it's a cover all ......

If you email icbscotlandcentralbelt@gmail.com (for the time being) we'll make sure you get an email about events plus make sure you check events on the ICB website as the Glasgow ones show up there as well.

Thanks !!

Hi Sarah

I am gong to have a stab at the computerised exam shortly, going against the grain but I have my reasons. I am going to get the trail of fusion software as most people have said it is as close to sage as you are going to get, which suits me.

Good luck with your other exams I am sure we will be seeing you around.

Liz

I have just dropped you an email, thanks for the info.
