Hello there,

It seems no reply - so I guess I have to have fun with the books by myself then....Cool

but just a thought, does this also mean that not many bookkeepers in Bournemouth area, which means I would have less competition if I start a business myself Money mouth.....

Hello Anna
This is my first exploration of the ICB members area having started the ICB career path with Ideal Schools a few weeks ago.  I am just about to take the Level 1 exam.  I live in Ringwood and would be happy to hear from you.

Hi Natalie,

I am so happy to hear from you (after so long with nobody reply, I almost give up Cry), welcome to the forum! I started learning on my own in March and preparing for my Level II manual exam at the moment. I hope I could find some network near me and kind of study together, so I won't be so lonely anymore. I have the "Lee Crescent" Mock paper for your level I exam practice, let me know if you need it, and let me know how you getting on with your studies Wink.

Keep in touch!

I have been preparing for my exam, and it is today, in about 1 hour's time. Hope everything goes OK...Anyway, let me know if you come for a break in Bournemouth next time, maybe I can be your tour guideLaughing

Hi Anna
Very well done on passing your exam!  I am doing a couple of  mock papers first,  the one I just completed did not go too well so need to do more revision before the online mock.
All the best

Thanks so much Aleksandra, I am sure we will bump into each other one day Smile... I am thinking of applying for the practical license and become self-employed, any advice? I have no idea if I could do it or notUndecided...

Linx - thank you, and I am sure you will do well too, sometimes it really needs to get you head round but there is occasions that it just seems difficult, but you will feel it is not hard at all once you try hard to understand it. I am sure you will do well at the end. Smile

Hi

Am currently studying for my Level 2 manual exam, and I too live in what today appears to be a very cloudy Bournemouth.

Great to see a (albeit small) network of fellow ICB members in the area.

Main aim for the day is to try to get my head around prepayments and accruals......

Hi Lou and Denise

Welcome to the growing band of South West forumites (not sure sure if that is a real word!)  I have recently passed Level II manual and now doing computerised.  I don't know yet if i'll continue on to Level III, have found the studying quite tough at times. But then again, the thirst for knowledge needs quenching!

Anyway, good luck with your studies!

Hi Anna

I live in Verwood and have done my level 2 in computerised and manual.  I'm just starting up a small book keeping company (hopefully!!).  So don't worry you're not alone down in lovely Dorset!

Good luck in your studies

Hello

I too am from the area living in Ferndown. Have set up my own bookkeeping practice several months ago now after completing level III. Currently doing the Payroll exam and have plans to expand on my qualifications in the near future.

Nice to hear from some local people embarking on the route of bookkeeping.

How are you all finding your studying? Are you studying while working?

Hi all

Am just about to book my Level 2 manual - so hoping to complete that soon.  Doing it through Training Link and going OK so far.

Am not currently working (recently made redundant) and so focussing all my efforts on getting qualified - my aim is to set up on my own - any advice anyone can give on getting things off the ground (am looking forward to the airshow this weekend) would be much appreciated.

Hi Natalie

Definitely up for a meeting to get to know others in the area and share (lack of) experiences and ideas, and happy to work with you to organise something.

Hi again, Lou and Denise in particular.

I am a bit tied up until the weekend but then I will contact ICB to find out how to set up a local branch, or we could just keep it casual. I'm open to suggestions of where and when but my preference would be for a morning coffee meeting to start with. Let me know what you think.

Would be great to understand what we would need to do to get a branch set-up, but a coffee morning would be a good starter for 10...Am on hols early Sept, but other than that can be relatively flexible.

(All coffee has to be accommpanied by cake though Smile )

Hi - whilst waiting for my next module to arrive in the post, I gave the ICB a call and had a chat with James.

There is a Christchurch Branch chaired by Rebecca Ray - James is going to let her know about our discussions and hopefully she will get in touch with us via this forum.

My understanding from James is that there is no standard approach to Branches/Networks - some areas have formal meetings with speakers (used for CPD) and others informal network events.  Hopefully Rebecca can advise on any activity that happens in the area and then we can decide how to proceed?

There is however nothing stopping us from arranging a coffee morning (or afternoon tea) for an informal discussion.

Hi All

Just to introduce myself - I am Rebecca Ray from Bridge Training Solutions Ltd, your local Chairperson. I haven't held any meetings for a while due to dwindling numbers last year! and also I was out in the evenings teaching Bookkeeping courses for Brockenhurst college, so quite busy. However I can see a lot of interest from your postings and am quite happy to arrange something for you all - with pleasure! Are there any topics you would like to cover, or any speakers you would particularly like to attend (within reason). I can then see what I can put together for you. Best wishes Rebecca. PS I am very new to this, so if this message doesn't look correct I will amend next time!!

Meeting sounds like a great idea, starting out and taking on your first clients I have found quite scary and daunting would be great to meet up with some people in the same boat and others that have been there and got the t-shirt (so to speak).

As for topics for discussion, being quite new to running my own business I would be quite flexible on this whether it be from gaining clients to technical I'm all ears.

Looking forward to a date being set!

I too am open to any discussion topics.  Reading the posts to this forum topic it seems that those of us studying for the exams feel a little isolated so it would be great just to make contact. But also we are mostly aiming to set up as self-employed bookkeepers it seems, so if there could be a speaker giving some guidance on how to do this that would be very welcome.

Looking forward to meeting everyone, putting faces to the names on this forum and other ICB members in the area.

That sounds great Rebecca (and yes, your post did work fine). I agree with the others - planning on becoming self-employed and therefore any speakers who can give advice, guidance, thoughts on that would be really interesting. Am quite confused about all the software packages available too, and how people use them with their clients, so something around that would be useful for me.

Hi All, I have been having some thoughts on putting together an evening meeting - how does October suit? Last time I held these in Ringwood at The Elm Tree Pub, good food and they have a seperate meeting room. The format last time was to meet at 6.30 p.m. for a drink/coffee and an informal chat. Then a speaker for a short session of up to an hour and then a sit down and a meal (for those who want to stay). I am available most Mon - Wed evenings. How does that sound? I have had a read throught the topics you have all suggested and am pleased that there is so much interest in getting together. I suggest the first evening we have quite an informal time and I will present something on meeting clients for the first time, marketing and growing your business, along with some housekeeping and Admin things you should consider when owning and running a Bookkeeping firm. I do have some good contacts with other speakers who will only commit if we have enough people. So may be we can get this going again. Let me know what you think!! Rebecca

interested in the meeting with just coffee/tea may be some nibbles!
Occasionally a meal!

That sounds great Rebecca.  Mondays tend to be better for me but may be able to rearrange other things.

Hoping to have my practice licence by then as trying to squeeze (and pass) my exams into September.

Hi to everyone using this thread. First time on the ICB forum and studying Level 1 Manual Bookkeeping through Ideal schools. Last assignment completed and waiting to get my mock exam. I live in Salisbury and I would be really interested in meeting up be that informally (coffee and cake) or at the Meeting you may set up in Ringwood. I will keep visiting the forum - if anybody else lives in Salisbury let me know. Being made redundant in March 2012 so any info in getting a job/setting up business would be really useful. Take Care! Dear Everyone

I am from Salisbury, yes it will be a good idea to get meeting up again, Ringswwod does seem to be a good central place to meet for those from Bournemoth, Salisbury and Southampton, initially for an informal get together maybe with tea/coffee and biscults!
Will keep an eye on the enents page!

Hi All

I was one of the members who previously attended Rebecca's meetings.

I live in Alderholt, and work in Salisbury every Monday.

Ringwood is ideal as a location for me, and it would be good to get the meetings going again.

However, ICB were not very good at informing me of the meetings.

I would often be informed of ones in Oxford, and then NOT the one's Rebecca was holding.

Perhaps we could manage one in October?

Regards
Valerie

Hello everyone
I just checked the 'events' page and there is nothing posted for south-west region yet.  Rebecca, are you still planning this?  If not I am happy to organise a coffee morning - who would be able to come to Ringwood on which mornings?
Best wishes

Hi Natalie - think a coffee morning would be good just to say hi and introduce ourselves in advance of any formal event.  My days are generally free at the moment (waiting on my L2 comp results before I can get a practice licence) so mornings over the next couple of weeks are good (with a few exceptions - not 12th Oct and not early Fridays).

Ok, am going to bite the bullet and suggest a date for an informal meeting/introductions.  Will leave the formal session to Rebecca.

Tuesday 18th October.   Somewhere in Ringwood as that appears to be somewhere that works for people.

Does that suit?  Any suggestions for a venue?

Should we all wear red chrysanthemums??

Hello Lou

Good idea.

The Elm Tree pub, which Rebecca mentioned as a venue, does morning coffee.  There is usually plenty of room, but if it were a problem we could probably go upstairs to their conference room.  If you were thinking about an evening meeting then you'll probably need to book.
Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Hallo

Debbie and I can make it Tuesday 18th, but I would think Frampton Mill in the Furlongs in Ringwood would be nicer, and they have an upstairs, so we could meet up their quite privately.

I would suggest that they are advised of numbers before we meet, so they can reserve us a table.

We will put it in the diary, just in case.

Hi everyone, unfortunately I won't be able to make it on Tuesday, assuming you're talking coffee morning, as I work full-time and this is my busiest day so won't be able to sneak out for an hour :-)

Hi - am going to Ringwood on Thursday so will nip into Frampton Mill and see what they can do (may also check out their cakes).   If not we can go to Elm Tree.

At the moment I have Natalie and Valarie down as meeting.  If anyone else is available and wants to join the fun then please let me know so I can reserve some space.

Looking forward to meeting people.
