Level IV

Hi again
Don't know where to post this query.... so its here in the hope James or someone at ICB will pick it up.

At our regional meeting today there was a brief discussion about Level IV and several members said that they undrestood that you needed to do an interview and have 5 years experience before taking this level - is that right? Have had a quick look on the main site but can't see anything about that there.... Are they getting confused with the fellowship status application?

Thanks.... need to know basis as have got the learning thirst again....

I think you may have the wrong end of the stick there. What you have described (I believe), is the qualifying criteria for becoming a Fellow. You need to have Level 4 or equivalent to gain this status.

Jason

You are 100% correct you need to have passed Level IV as part of the criteria to be able to become  a fellow.

Once you apply to become a fellow (On clompletion of your level 4 exams) then you will have to show at least 5 years experience, attend an interview and provide references.

Kind regards

I think the confusion is caused by this page http://www.bookkeepers.org.uk/Membership/Joining%20by%20Examination

It implies that all Fellows are Level IV but I assume not everyone with a Level IV will be a Fellow. I plan on starting Level IV once I have completed the SA exam, not becasue I want to be Fellow - I won't qualify because I have less than five years experience - but it is precisely because of that I wish to do it. Without wishing to start the exp v qual debate again, but it can only be of benefit to me to take as many qualifications as possible. Experience I am gaining through current employment, but looking at the requirements to start level IV you need to take all the Level III quals but doesn't mention if you need any experience.

Hi Mike

I agree taking as many exams as possible is a good thing as it keeps your knowledge fresh and up to date.

It does seem to have caused some confusion with regards to which point the level IV papers can be taken which is having done and passed level III.

The ICB have put two thing together which has caused the confusion in my humble opinion. In order to apply for fellowship you must have completed and passed Level IV gained the 5 years experience etc etc you do not need to wait to take the level IV exams.

I hope this clarifys things.

Cheers
Stuart

Hi - please can anyone tell me how you actually study for the Level IV?
I've noticed that there are 2 textbooks on the website but that these only cover Modules 1 & 2...

Hi Everyone,

I would like to have further information about level 4:

  • Is the institute or any other learning provider going to run any assigment?
  • Is there any tutorial support throughtout the study process?
  • Is level 4 only available on a self-study basis?
Kind Regards,

Nathalie
