ICB Members in Cornwall?

  • 1 post
  • # 72366

Are there any Members on here who practice in Cornwall? I have not got my practice license yet or looked into insurance, but I am MICB already, work part time in a Purchase Ledger role, and am in the process of setting up self-employed on my own account. If there was anybody looking to team up with a partner in Cornwall I'd love to hear from you, maybe we could share ideas on marketing/pricing etc, or even set up together to pool talents.

I currently practice in Truro with a full Practice Licence and insurance and am interested to see if there is to be a Regional branch in Cornwall. Recently I had to attend the Torquay seminar on 6th June because it was the nearest
Regional seminar, which proved to be of good use as Garry Carter notified us of the recent developments and forthcoming issues.

I welcome hearing from other members in Cornwall and their experiences in the bookkeeping business.

A new branch has been set up in South East Cornwall. The inaugural meeting will be held in Plymouth and will be an opportunity for all students and members in the area to meet each other and discuss the content of future meetings. Members will be meeting in the foyer with the possibility of moving onto the Fishbone Restaurant and Bar.

Members Get Togethers are informal, relaxed events organised by members for members.

Hi Restormal Bookkeeping and David
I hope you'll both come along to our first meeting in Plymouth on the 20th.  I know it is quite a distance for both of you, but one of the topics up for discussion will be the future location, depending on who turns up.

Hi

I am new here and registered as a student. I have booked a ticket for the event in plymouth on the 20th but now cannot make it due to work shifts changing.
Does anybody know who i need to contact to tell them and how can i find out what was discussed at the new branch meeting.
I really do want to attend but will have to come to the next one whenever and wherever that is, and if someone could tell me how i find out whatwas discussed that would be amazing.

Hi

I'm also new here, and a student.  I too was hoping to get to the meeting tonight but am not able to make it.  I would like to find out what was discussed and when/where the next meeting will be.  If it helps Plymouth is OK to get to for me!

I'm sorry that neither of you could make it to the meeting on Thurs.  I've written a short report under a new thread if you're interested in having a look.  Our next meeting will be on 24th November at the Future Inn at 7.30pm.  I hope you can both make it then.

Hi Alan
If you follow this link http://www.futureinns.co.uk/contact/plymouth, then click on the purple icon, enter your postcode and it will give you directions.  We meet in the Fishbone Bar, which is on the left if you come in via the reception (although there is a door directly into the bar further to the left of the building).  Reception doesn't know that we're meeting there, but I always put some ICB flyers on the table so that we're obvious to those who know the logo.
Look forward to meeting you there.

Hi David
There is a "Cornwall/SE Cornwall branch" which meets in Plymouth. The branch has members from the Plymouth area, Kingsbridge in South Hams, student members from St Austell and Launceston have also attended. The organiser is Angela Greenhough based in South Cornwall. I am based in Doublebois between Liskeard and Bodmin and would welcome the opportunity to discuss business in Cornwall.

Kind regards
Tracey

Hi David
I also attended the Torquay seminar and remember meeting you and thinking what a long trek you'd made for the event.  As Tracey has already mentioned, I have started a group in the SE Cornwall/West Devon area, with members coming from both directions.  We have so far had 3 meetings in a bar in Derriford, Plymouth, and have very informal discussions on a wide range of topics.  Our plan is to look to get in outside speakers once the group has built up in size, but to date 7 is the most who have attended.  However, I have confidence that we will gradually build up numbers.  It would be great if you were able to attend our next meeting, which is on 16th Feb at the Fishbone Bar, Future Inn, Plymouth at 7.30pm.
Best Wishes
Angela

Hi All

I think if the name of the group is changed to say Plymouth Area by letting the regional chair know and make it clear it covers quite a large geographical area, than more members from West Devon/Plymouth area may join. This might be a better way to build the group numbers than relying on finding Cornish members willing to travel the distance to Plymouth.
Kind Regards
Tracey

The current branch will be called Cornwall & Devon in the short term, until we are able to establish a Cornwall branch more central to the county, perhaps in the area of St Austell? The aim in 2012 is to have one branch per county. Ken Bell, Head of regions, Advisory Council.

Hi

Ken's asked me to find a venue for an inital meeting - does anyone know the Brewer's Fayre at Penhale Round on the A30 at Fraddon? It's pretty central to Newquay, St Austell, Truro, Bodmin and there's parking and food if anyone needs it! It would need a seating area away from the main bar. My other thought was the Britannia Inn on Holmbush Road just outside St Austell.  Please let me know if you have any other suggestions. If there is the demand from members further West Penzance/Helston perhaps Truro would be a better location?

Hi Tracey,
Liaise with me re a date as February is filling up fast! Probably need to fit in March.   When you have decided on the location we can set a date and start to advertise on the Events page and here on the forum.

Hi Ken

How about Thursday 8th or 15th March (month ends best avoided I think!)? I plan to checkout a couple of venues at the weekend and will let you know which I think is best for our purpose.

Dear Cornish Members

There is another meeting for the Cornwall Branch at Penhale Round, Fraddon on Wednesday 27th June (see event listing for details.)  If there is no interest please let me know and the branch can become dormant until or if there is future demand.

Or give me some feedback on the forum! The first meeting in March had 4 members booked on, but only one attended the meeting.

Hi Angela

If there are any meetings planned for 2013 I'd be very interested in attending and meeting up with other bookkeepers.

Hi Povl
Our next meeting is on Thurs 24th Jan at 7.30pm at the Fish Bone Bar at the Future Inn at Derriford (directions on their website).  We meet in the bar and have an informal meeting about whatever comes up.  I'm thinking of focusing on RTI at the next one.  It would be great if you could join us.
If you can't make it, we meet on alternative months on the 3rd Thurs of the month.  Mathini usually sends invitations from ICB HQ.  If you're not receiving them, let me know and I'll make sure you're included in future.
Hope to meet you on the 24th.
Best
Angela

Hi Angela

Are the meetings for students too, does it cost and do I have to book?  I can't see it on the events page.

Hi Sue
Yes, you are very welcome to join us on the 24th Jan.  There is no cost as we just meet informally in the bar at The Future Inn, Derriford.  You do need to book via the events page.  Mathini will send out invitations nearer the time, so if it's not listed yet, you can book via the invitation.
Hope to see you there.

Hi all

I am the regional chair for the South West which covers Cornwall. There has been some fits and starts trying to get meetings going in the area and if anyone is interested in being the spearhead to start any meetings in their particular area of Cornwall then please let me know and I and Ken Bell (Head of Regions) will do all we can to help.

The time commitment can seem scary but I assure you it does not have to be time consuming.

If you would like a chat please let me know!
