Open University courses

Dear all,

I have a 2 part question regarding OU courses.

1. I am currently studying OU's B291 Financial Accounting - will (successful) completion of the module give me exemption with the ICB? I've done ICB Lvs 1 & 2, but it would be nice if my OU studies could count for something with ICB.

2. One of the other students on B291 has recently completed B190 Introduction to Bookkeeping & Accounts. Having not done the course myself I cannot speak for the content, but I see from previous posts here in the forum that it gives exemptions in ICB Level 1....presumably it is therefore pretty straightforward and not too taxing (pardon the pun).

However, success completion of B190 apparently gives exemptions to MIAB status and allows holders to state they are qualified bookkeepers...presuming that ICB and IAB have similar levels of membship can this be correct??

Confused,
Helen.

I would be interested to see a reply to this post from the ICB.  I am currently an associate member and studying B291 which seems to be a very in depth course (it is billed as a level 2 degree course and does seem to require the level of work and understanding of a year 2 course).

I think I have read somewhere that ICB will give member status only on completion of B291 and B292 together.  As B292 is Management Accounting I am not sure that that is correct.

I have compared the syllabus for Level III ICB to my B291 course and everything on the syllabus seems to be covered, in broad terms at least.

Would ICB mind confirming whether B291 will give you a Level III exemption, if not can you explain what bits are missing from B291 that Level III require.  Also, is the exemption manual only?

Kind Regards

I would also be interested in the answer to this question.

I am considering studing the OU's B190 course - Intro to Bookkeeping and Accounting. The OU state that the IAB gives exemption for their Level 3 Diploma. I was planning to take the ICB exams on completion of the course, however if it possible to get an exemption from the ICB then so much the better.

I would just say that part of the reason I am considering the OU is because they offer financial support, I couldn't continue with my education otherwise.
