Negative numbers in Manual exams

I did my Level II Manual exam this afternoon, and just got the results through. Looking at the ones I got wrong, it looks like they were wrong due to me having put a minus sign to indicate the negative numbers. I did the online mock last week, and I could have sworn that was what you were told to do. Has anyone else found this, or have I got it all round my neck?! I passed anyway, so perhaps I should stop worrying!

I lost marks in my Level 2 exams because I put negative numbers in (eg minus closing stock in the cost of sales calculation) - there was nowhere on the instructions which indicated that you shouldn't do this and if you were writing a manual paper you would have put these numbers in brackets. I thought it was very unfair - like you, I still passed but an extra couple of marks doesn't hurt!!!

Hi

When I did the Mock, it did state not to use brackets or a minus where the text states 'less' i.e. less closing stock, less liabilites etc. only to use a minus if the end figure is a negative, i.e if the P&L is at a loss, a minus, you would then need to put a minus. I worked to this is my Mock and got the questions correct.

Ah, that makes sense - thanks Kerry. I wonder how I managed to misconstrue that - exam nerves I suppose! I would have found it useful for the instruction to be repeated for the relevant questions, I think, but I'll know for next time.
