Hi All,

I am due to sit the above exam but dont know what to expect!?  What are the centres like?  Do you do the work on a computer or is it all written in scripts?

Thanks

Have you taken the mock online yet? This will answer most of your queries about the actual exam. As for the centres - some don't allow your own calculator, some do (must be a basic calculator). Remember your ID and I think ICB card. The monitor is in the middle of the desk and can't be moved. You don't get to write on paper for your rough workings but rather on plastic writing boards. You get two of these. When you fill them up they take these away and give you new ones. Remember and replace the lid on the pen as it dries out (if left off for too long). This may seem blindingly obvious - but I nearly found out the hard way.

My own opinion is it would be utter madness not to pay the £5 or £10 to sit the online mock exam.

Hello Peasie,
Thank you for your reply Laughing

I got a £5 downloadable test, not too bad, was expect allot worse.
Think i will try the online version tomorrow, a white board?!?!?  Good god! The centre sounds random as hell.

The "white board" is just really a kind of laminated A4 sheet. It isn't a rigid large thing if I gave that impression.

The centre is the same place you do the driver's theory test if you have done one in recent years. If you've had your licence for ages this won't mean anything. So you may have a group of people clicking away madly at the mouse at the same time as you're doing your exam. They give you ear plugs if you want them. It isn't really a distraction though. Some people have been given a room on their own.

I got a room to myself. Good job too as it dawned on me after a while I was chattering away to myself "no, no, hang on, yep, got it" and that sort of thing. Would have got thrown out if I was in the main room for disruption! Embarassed

The receptionist at the centre I went to wouldn't even let me take a tissue in. I had to leave mine in the locker and take one from her box. I even had to remove my watch just incase I had the answers inside the strap. I do wonder how far they'll go to make sure you don't cheat!

Edited at 26 Aug 2011 11:57 AM GMT I'm booked in to take this exam on September 7th. I'm a bit confused with Peasie mentioning an ICB card, as I've never had one. Could someone confirm whether I need this for the exam?

All I was asked for was my ID. The ICB card just has your name I think they need photo ID.
Good luck with the exam.

Sorry for any confusion caused - I don't know where I got the idea of you having to use your ICB card from. I was asked for two forms of ID, one with photo and signature (I used my driving licence) and another with your signature (I used a credit card). Good luck on the 7th.

I was sitting at an agle to the desk to give me space - I just hope the woman at the desk couldn't lipread as there was a bit of swearing going on even if it wasn't actually said out loud. I think the expression on my face may have given away the one syllable word I was using. I also had to stop myself playing tunes with the pen on my teeth as I wasn't in a room by myself and I couldn't remember if those doing their driving theory test were wearing headphones.

Well, level 2 manual exam tomorrow. Just noticed all of my calculators have a memory function, which I assume isnt allowed into the exam. Can they supply you with a calculator?

Is it just a case of bringing my photo/signature id and a second signature id, and the rest I'll need is at the centre?

Thanks in advance

You may as well take your calculator along with you - they may allow it, they may not. For my level II exam I took in a calculator with MR MC M+ M- buttons - it was allowed. My level III exam the same person didn't allow me to take in the calculator. The calculator he supplied me with had the memory buttons. There's no harm in taking a calculator - it is a bonus if the allow it as you will be used to it.

Good luck with the exam. I'm currently doing my level III computerised exam suffering in pain after having three teeth extracted a few hours ago. Numbness has wore off and pain has taken over.

Excuse the edits above. The forum wasnt displaying my text. Anyway, they didnt allow me my calculator, but had one waiting for me. Two nice guys working at the centre in Merthyr, nice atmosphere too. I got 99%, so pretty pleased with that.

Congratulations on the high mark. I was just looking at the results section of the website to see if they had the result for my own level III computerised exam. I haven't actually posted it back yet - but there's no harm in getting in some practice for when I start to look three or four times a day for the result.

I did better in my level III manual that my level II manual - maybe you'll do the same. Smile

Haha! Before we had the results page people would ring us the day after they posted to see if we had marked the paper yet. No joke. Sometimes before we had even received the post that morning.

Probably the busiest page on the web Laughing

I'm definitely a results page stalker - too embarrassed to admit how often I 'check in'.  Part of me thinks that if I login and log out again really quickly it doesn't count as checking!!!  Embarassed
