Can anyone recommend a Distance Learning Provider for Lvl 2 & 3 Computerised?

Hi All

I need to take Level 2 & Level 3 computerised but the course provider that I used for my manual courses does not do Computerised Booking at this level!

Please can anyone recommend a good distant learning provider? I have looked at the websites of Training Link & Clever Cloggs and both look really good, but Training Link is considerably cheaper. I am self financing and I am finding that taking these 2 additional courses could cost over £1000, but I would like a good provider, as my previous provider was not very good!!

Please can anyone help?
Kind regards
Sarah

Ideal Schools have been fantastic and very reasonably priced.

Good luck!

Sarah

Before spending money on a course, I would buy a mock exam and download a trial - Solar Accounts has a free trial for 2-3 months and is very basic as it is for people with no account experience.

Have a look at it and see if you can 'work it out.'  Be brave as you cannot break it, and you can very easily correct any mistakes.  Most of the questions you may have can be answered on their question and answer pages as people have already asked them.

I am not a Solar Accounts sales person, just someone who does not believe in spending money if I don't have to.  Actually I am not sure that I would use Solar when I start bookeeping, as it is basic and does not produce some of the reports that are useful such as the ones Sage produces, but for the purpose of the computerisd level 2 it's fine.

Hi Sarah

I think that's really good advice that Jocelyn has given.  I am not from a bookkeeping background but did exactly that ie worked through the mock paper on Solar Accounts and am glad to say that I have just recently passed Level 2 comp.  It really is not that hard and you would save alot of money in the process!

Hi

I have done my courses with Training Link and have been very impressed with them. No hard sell, text books easy to understand, coursework marked and returned by the Tutor extremely  quickly. Would recommend them without hesitation. I am currently studying  Payroll and plan to go on to do Level 3 and 4 with them too.

Good luck with whatever method you choose Laughing

I used training link for the courses I brought apart from 1. Training link were great response to emails with in hours even at weekends. The other course I brought from the company mentioned in other posts was terrible, no support, the material didn't make sense so I gave up on it and did the exam myself and still don't understand the course notes!
One friday night the owner of training link called me about an email I sent and we had a good chat and he encouraged me to sit exams without buying a course and also to set up my business.

Hi I am with you Sarah I do not want to spend money where I don't have to - I know it is investment but it doesn't mean I have to through it away.

I did my level 2 computerised after the manual with Kaplan. However I was thinking about the level 3 compuetrized - I am doing the level 3 manual now.

My question is "has anyone done what Sarah has suggested for level 3 computerised that is down load the mock and go through it and passed and what was the score." ( I have SAGE as I joined their accountants club - worth the investment and a resource I will be using).

Regards
Clare

Hi, I also did my levels 1 and 2 (including computerised) with Ideal Schools and I can't praise them enough - very supportive, quick to answer e-mails, and to turn round assignments.  Remember with Ideal Schools that you get a copy of SAGE Instants with the Level 2 Computerised course material that you can continue to use afterwards.

Hi, thanks everyone for your posts - I researched several providers but liked the look of Training Link because it is based on the professional Sage software, not the Instant Accounts which I know inside out and would like to see a differrent version of Sage. I've been working as a Finance Director and in Accounts for large organisations for about 15 years on various different packages, but just need the qualification now, as I would like to set up on my own as a Bookkeeper for smaller companies & sole traders. I have only qualified through the manual route so I now need Computerised for the Member status. I had pervsioualy studied with Kaplan and found their materials to be absolutely excellent but they do not do Computerised Levl 3. Also Ideal Schools would not do just Computerised 2&3, its only part of their package with manual bookeeping (which I have already done). Some course providers quoted £1200 to do levels 2 & 3, Training Link quoted £600 and their course materials do look good.
Thanks again to everyone for their suggestions!! They have been much appreciated

This seems to contradict what is on the Ideal Schools website for their computerised bookkeeping course.

Entry Requirements
Students should have a knowledge of manual bookkeeping principles before commencing this course:
An understanding of ICB Level II manual bookkeeping is required. If you plan on sitting the examination for the Level III Diploma in Computerised Bookkeeping, a knowledge of the ICB Level III manual principles is required.

Hi
Ideal Schools only do the package of Level 1 & 2 manual bookeeping, plus the add on of Sage computerised accounts.

There doesn't appear anything on the computerised bookkeeping page to say it has to be part of another package. I thought the course could be ordered on its own for £429.

hi, I thought that strange as well because I emailed them last week and asked if they did ICB Level 2 & 3 computerised and the answer I got back from Ideal Schools was no, you have to buy the complete package, so I ended up going elsewhere!!Surprised

Hello All,

It would appear there is some confusion here and hopefully this helps:

If a student already has a knowledge of manual bookkeeping (Level II minimum), then they can register for the Sage Computerised Course on its own, preparing for either the Level II or III Computerised exam, depending on their manual knowledge.

If a student has no previous bookkeeping knowledge or experience then one of the course packages would be more suitable. This ensures they have a full underpinning knowledge, and also ensures they are fully prepared for the manual bookkeeping exams, which is now a requirement.

Study on!!!

Kind regards

Hi Jocelyn, thanks loads for this info - I have now downloaded my Solar Accounts and the Level 2 Computerised Exam and I'm ready to go!!
