Hi

This was mentioned in the members section - can i ask whether you have to be at the member level to be able to provide this type of service?

James

I have posted responses to this in the other section.

Obviously not wishing to lower standards but I would appreciate it if you could enlighten me as to why this is a regulated area?

Yes it could be said that in providing credit control it makes the provider an accountancy service provider - however as far as I can see from HMRC web site on ASP  it would not come within that umbrella.

For instance you could have someone sitting at a desk all day making calls for debts and /or issuing proceedings but without having any physical input into the recording of any transactions - ie they are not a bookkeeper.

I've been wondering lately when credit control becomes debt collecting, and if we need an OFT Credit License for this?

Thats great James,

So gentle reminders (or not so gentle) by phone or mail on behalf a of a client should be ok, so long as the payment goes directly to the client.  I assume preparing court papers for the client to take the debt to the small claims court is also in order?
