Level II Manual

Hi Folks,

New to the site and wondered if someone could point me in the right direction.

I signed up with HLC a few years ago to undertake a computerised bookkeeping course and I'm wondering whether or not I will need to sit the Level II Manual Exam?  I have already attained a distinction with Level I Manual and the next level up for me (on my course) was Level II Computerised, no mentioned was made to Level II Manual.  However I see from the membership annoucement that to gain membership Level II Manual will be required to be achieved by September, will this apply to myself?

If so, will I need to sign up for another course which covers the Manual Exam?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Caroline.

Hi, I have just done the same course as yourself from HLC and have taken the level 2 manual exam at a test centre last week. All you have to do is book it through the ICB website and find a test centre near yourslef and pay the examination fee. You don't have to do another course for this level  and it's just like level 1 manual exam. I downloaded the mock exam from the ICB site and this helped hugely in defining where I needed to do extra study for the exam. Hope this helps you and good luck.

Hi Amanda,

Thanks for your reply, I'll visit the shop and download a mock Level II Manual and see how I get on.  I presume that when you take this exam at a centre that all the answersheets required for the exam questions are provided, i.e. ledger layouts etc...?  For Level I Manual I prepared these from scratch, so I just setup a template on Excel and it worked a treat.  I presume a centre based exam you won't be allowed to use your text books for reference?

Kind regards,
Caroline.

Hi Caroline, both my manual exams level 1 and 2 were done online and the majority of the exam is presented in multiple choice questions. level 1 I sat at home and was therefore able to have some notes with me but level 2 is sat at a test centre and I was unable to take anything into the exam, they provide you with writing equipment and a calculator and you have two hours in which you can complete it. I did the mock exam twice as the first time I only just passed and obviously needed to do more revision in certain areas and I found that doing the mock really helped in pointing these areas out .

Hi Amanda,

Cheers for your reply.  I've purchased a mock Level II Manual and I'll see how I get on once I've received my results for Level II Computerised.  The exam at the test centre is kinda putting me off a little, home based exams are bad enough but sheer panic goes through me thinking of a centre based exam!  I've come this far and it would be silly not to go all the way eh! Wink

Thanks Amanda.

Hi Caroline

I am taking my Level 2 this week and like you am a little bit terrified!  It's been a long while since I sat an exam.  I would recommend doing the online mock as well, I found it really helped as it is a timed exam and in the same format as the one at the test centre.

Good Luck!

Hi all,

Firstly, good luck to all of you. I know how daunting exams can be.

You are quite correct in that the centre based exams mean that you cannot take any notes or course work with you, but I would advise (as has been stated here) doing the online mock. It is a great help and really will prepare you for what lies ahead. The exam proper has the exact same layout. My advice when you go to the test centre is to use the equipment provided and write everything down, this will help you fill in all the blanks.

In answer to the membership question, yes you will be required by Sept this year to have passed both manual and computerised in the same level to attain, or continue with membership. This is only to ensure that you have a full understanding of the subject. It's all too easy to let the software do it all for you until something goes awry. With the knowledge of manual bookkeeping, you will find it easier to correct these mistakes (or at least find them).

Let us know how you all get on.

Best wishes.

Hi David,

Thanks.

I have to say that my preference would be manual bookkeeping, as until I embarked on this course I had no experience of using software to execute such tasks and as I am not responsible for this at work and my experience of this software (am using Sage) is only done so through the course, and as you say an understanding of the manual method does make things more comprehensible, especially corrections.

Hail the pen and paper! LOL (although in truth that's now electronic LOL).Laughing

Hi,

I sat my level ll in a test centre in May. I was really scared too as didn't know what to expect.

The test centre was fine and there were people doing loads of different exams, most of them doing their theory driving test. You go off into a little booth so you don't feel like anyone is going to put you off and you can really concentrate. You are being watched to make sure you don't cheat by a man behind a window, but he is also there to help you if any thing goes wrong or if you need more paper or your calculater breaks etc. Every one is booked in a different times and you wait for a booth to become free and then they programme you in to do your exam. So you don't feel panicky if someone has finished before you as they are all doing something different.

I certainly won't worry about doing my level lll in the centre now and the mock is in the same format so you have a really good idea of what it's going to be like.

Hope you get on ok.

Hey

I passed my Level 2 - 96%.  Made a couple of silly mistakes but just so happy to have got through.  It was just as Nicky described and all the others were doing driving theory.  The atmosphere is very calm and puts you at ease so you can concentrate.

Good luck to all who are taking their exams soon and thanks for all the encouraging comments.

Well done Panda! I passed today too :-)

I also did the HLC course and was wondering how to go about doing Level 2 Manual.

So you can do a Level 2 manual exam withough doing the course? I assume it's a mixture of Level 1 and Level 2 Sage combined but obviously the manual way? If that makes sense!

Hi Guys.

I did the same courses as you with HLC and I'm now waiting for the results from ICB for my Level II Competurised. Read your posts was a great light at end of the tunel for me, as I was just about to start Level II Manual. Never tought of the fact that could do the exam without complete the whole course.

Thank you soo much for your great help Smile

Good luck to you all  Laughing

Well I did the online mock for Level 2 Manual and only just passed with 79% so now I'm undecided whether to just get the study book from the shop or to get a course :-/

you have to really understand your double entry for the manual bookkeeping as the computerised does all of that for you, so you may have to do some studying first. Ideal schools do a great course which is not too expensive( about £240) and the course really prepares you for the exam.

They really explain everything well and you have a tutor at the end of phone or e-mail if your stuck. Took me about 3 months to do.

Hope that helps
