Hi

I have been looking at the ICB booklet on how to set up your own business and in particular the business name.

I would like to call my business Acorn2oak Bookkeeping Services - i have looked on the net and there are businesses using Acorn2oak but how do you find out if a business is using it for bookkeeping purposes?

Regards

In my opinion "Acorn2oak" and "Acorn2oak Bookkeeping Services" are two different names. There are "Acorn Bookkeepiung Services" but that is another different name.

One thing worth bearing in mind is the availability of your business name in the form of an internet domain name. A short memorable name that matches the name of your business is best.

Similarly, it can cause confusion if a business website uses a domain name that includes a number instead of a word. Imagine trying to tell each client that"my website is 'blah 4 blah .com' and the 4 is a number not a word"! So aviod domain names with numbers,  dashes, or unusual spellings ('Xpress Accountz' for example) if you can.
