Many thanks in advance!

Funnily enough Jenny, I was having the same thought today as I met with a new client who is a 44 mile round trip!  Any thoughts from others would be helpful please!

I suggest increasing your fee a little so that you at least cover your costs, if you seperate it out, that's when clients start to get picky.

Hi

I agree with Lady M and Liz above about raising your price, but not for this client if you have only just started.

I am thinking with a clients hat here.

I would not expect to pay anyone's mileage.   My attitude is if you want the work that is where you go.    I don,t expect to pay mileage to any of my suppliers if they did I would move my business.

You need to ask why should the client pay for you to do a round trip, unless they cannot find anyone closer.   They would not pay an employee for mileage so why you.  They want the advantages of someone been self employed.  I am just asking from the clients point of view.

You have to remember that you pitched for the business and that price.  You should have costed your mileage before you pitched for the job.   I would be very annoyed as a client if you suddenly raised the cost , whether it be in the fee or adding on mileage.

For the future though you could look at your costings.

There are a lot of people flooding the market so be careful you don,t price yourself out of the market.

One of the Accountants for one of my clients charged for mileage and other extras .  My client was furious as she sees it as part of business and has now given me some of the work they were doing.

Companies are really struggling at the minute.  I  have seen very quick decisions been taken this year and most of them about costs no matter how small.

Sarah, you've made some very fair points and for me at this stage I'd rather have the business!  Thanks everyone else for your input too.
