Hi all, I have been studying bookkeeping since last year, I have achieved my level 1 manual with 94% and I am currently awaiting my results for my level 2 computerised! I am thoroughly enjoying my studies and am about to start my level 2 manual.... :)
I have previously worked as an administrator but unfortunately was made redundant a few months ago so have been job hunting. I have been applying for positions that are admin but that also lean towards the accounts side and working with the sage so that I can gain some experience whilst studying, this way once I have completed all of my studies I can maybe look at starting my own business.
Today I went for an interview for an admin role with some sage work, turns out that the role is more of a bookkeeping and payroll position and will involve a lot of what I have recently learned. I was offered the job there and then and I start very soon! I am very excited and also very nervous, it will be fantastic to gain experience at the same time as studying for further qualifications, but is it too soon to be working for a company? should I have done more of my courses first? or am I just worrying over nothing and the experience will be great? Any tips or guidance for someone just stepping into the industry would be great!

Congrats! I'm for you. I am also searching for a job though I'm yet to sit for any exams. I'm yet to be called for any interview.

Thanks for the encouragement J Marie. I'll keep you posted of whatever progress I'm making. I will definitely benefit from your own experience in job hunting. In the meantime, enjoy your new job!

Hi James,

My employer is fully aware that I am still a studying and they are also aware that I do not have any experience yet so there will be training involved. I haven't done any payroll and haven't signed up for that course at present, I have my level 2 & 3 manual and level 3 computerised bookkeeping still to do first.
The company are also aware that I haven't had anything to do with payroll. They are a pretty small business at present with five customers and I think less than ten employee's so hopefully this is a good place to start to enable me to grow with the business whilst continuing my studies.

Hi Liz,

Thank you for your tips I will bear these in mind! I went out yesterday and made sure that I had a good notebook so that I can start making notes the moment I start.

I think once ive overcome the nerves of starting something new and started working through some of the processes that I have learn't then I will be fine :)

Thank you all for your lovely comments and I will update once I have settled in a little

Regards
J Marie

Hi Femi, James and LizF,

I just wanted to update you all on the new job! I have been in my new job now for three weeks and I am loving it! The main part of my job is keeping the books and payroll but being a small company at present I have various other office duties too to keep me busy. I also found out in my first week that the lady who is training me in the business is currently looking for another job as she would like to move on, hence my being trained in all aspects of the business. I was a little taken aback when I found out but I now feel confident that I can take over when she does leave, so very exciting. I have learn't a lot in the last three weeks and will continue to learn more over the coming weeks, I am looking forward to growing with the business!

Thank you all for your kind comments and encouragement!

Oh and I also received my results for my level 2 computerised exam in my first week of work. I passed with 94%! so now I have upgraded my membership Smile ......on with my next course level 2 manual Smile loving it!
