Starting up with just AICB and no experience

I'd appreciate some honest answers to  this question.........

How realistic is it for someone qualified to Associate level, but without any 'real life' accounts/ bookkeeping expereince, to set up a successful bookkeeping business.

Hi Ray,

I setup after completing level 2 and getting my Practice License.  I had no real world bookkeeping experience.  I started with very small sole traders and took it from there.  With forums like this and the ICB to contact in emergencies for advice and guidance there is really no reason you can't.

I wouldn't say I'm sucessful yet, but I am getting there.  Building a client base can take a while.

Hi Kris, Thanks for replying. I am a little surprised that you were the only person who replied.

I suspect the reason is that passing the qualification is the easy bit - building a profitable practice is probably something people struggle to do successfully.
