Hi

Is there any recommended books on self assessment?

If it is for the ICB exam then their own book on the subject would be recommended. Along with a few hours spent downloading the various forms and leaflets from the HMRC website.

Hi James

Are the study texts for Level 4 Taxation available or will they be released at a later date? Also is there a mock exam for the Self Assessment level 3?

Kind regards

“Hello,

The ICB Self Assessment book is very popular, the 09-10 is ready now here: http://www.bookkeepers.org.uk/Shop/Product/Self_Assessment_Tax_Returns_Manual_09-10

The 10-11 will be released in September.

The ICB also has the Level 4 which takes you further into personal taxation.”

Just wondering if anyone has studied for the Self Assessment exam with a DVD course. Will studying the ICB book be sufficient  to pass?  Can't justify the outlay for a DL course just now.
Any advice welcomed
Thanks

I used just the ICB book and passed the assessment.  Not only that, I have completed a number of tax returns for clients this year and keep the ICB book to hand for reference.

“Hi Charlotte,

The first 2 books for the Level IV are ready, for the modules Drafting Financial Statements and Management Accounting. The other two modules I will chase Kaplan for a publish date.

Unfortunately there is no mock for the self assessment currently available.”

James - I brought the other 2 level IV books at conference, company and personal taxation. Can't remember the exact titles so they must be available!

Thanks Kris, for your quick response. I'll go for the ICB book and as you point out it will  come in handy for reference.

Edit: spellcheck!

I too only used the book available from the ICB to pass the exam. The only other bits I needed were downloads from HMRC.

I too use if for reference now.
