Hi I would be greatful for some advice I am in the process of sitting the level 3 exam so I can gain the relevant practicing licence and indemnity insurance but in the meantime to gain some up to date experience I have been doing the books for my Osteopath's small business.

This was on a favour basis (i.e. I do the work and receive free treatment) to begin with but her business is growing so she would like me to do some more hours which I will fit in around my other full time job.

My question is how is best to go about charging for the work I figure that I should invoice her and then fill in a self assessment at the end of the year to declare the extra income?

Hiya
First and foremost you must have your Practicing Certificate and Professional Indemnity Insurance. Also make sure that you register as self employed with HMRC within 3 months of starting to trade/provide services.
I would invoice on a monthly basis and if the hours are steady you could offer a fixed monthly fee after say 3-6 months.
All the best.

Angie
