i have just passed Manual Level II book keeping yesterday.  I sat the exam at a local centre.  I bought a book called Kaplan Accounting from the ICB - I think it is called Basic Book Keeping, geared for Level I and II. I don't know if they still sell this book but it is well worth it. I worked through the exercises and everything was fullly explained.  The exam was not as bad as I thought

good luck

Great, thanks. So you learnt it from the Kaplan  book. I cannot decide wheather I should do a course or just buy a book.

I found doing a course really useful, although if you passed Level 2 manual without a course you may not need it. I used Ideal Schools and found the course very good. I achieved a 98% distinction and will be using Ideal Schools again for my future training. Whatever you decide, I would recommend completing the ICB mock exam, it really improved my confidence. Good luck! Dave

I agree it really is useful to complete the mock examination.  I used a text book and got 98% distinction on my manual II examination as well.  But when I studied for the other courses i did use a course as it was nice to have the support from them.  It is really up to you try one way but if this does not suit you then use someone like Ideal School - as I was originally going to use them as well.

What to use and how to study would surely depend on how confident you are. I used a course to take me through to level 2 manual. I used books and mocks to get me through the computerised, the self assessment tax returns and the payroll management course.

My course provider was Home Learning College and whilst they were excellent in their tutoring they are very expensive. I you feel that you prefer or need to study through a course and would like the tutoring to help you along the way, the cheapest courses I found (after paying through the nose) was with Ideal Schools. Also, members here who have studied through Ideal have all said how great they were.

Good luck with your studies and exams. Hope this helps.

Hi,

I also did this course through Ideal Schools; their material is very good and they are very good with giving you feed back etc. I passed with 100% Distinction Smile So I would definitely recommend them.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I chose Training Link in the end as they offered me a great price and support:-)))

I used the Kaplna books and found them realy user friendly and they provided more than enough knowledge required for the exam.

Im sitting my Manual Level II this afternoon (!)  Ive just studied myself from the two text books - Practical Bookkeeping Kit and the Practical Bookkeeping text book.  Ive done my Level III Computerised already though and ive worked as a bookkeeper for 10 years.

If you want to buy my text books from me (provided i pass!!) then you are more than welcome to them.  Would only want £30 for them both together and will post.

(Im new to the forum so not sure if im allowed to post the above, apologies if i cant sell my text books through here)

Hi, hope you passed. I don't need more books at the moment but many thanks for your offer anyway.
