Dear All
We are aiming to have the next London Workshop on the above date venue to be confirmed but is likely to be Central London.
The workshop will commence at 18:30hrs and will run to 21:00hrs.
One of the group members will be delivering a lecture on Filing systems for the first half hour and then we are going to think up somthing for everybody to particpate in for the following segment of the meeting.
I was extremely disappointed by the low turn out of numbers to the meeting and have to give a big thank you to all those who did attend.
Please bear in mind these sessions do count towards your CPD. So this who did attend make sure you keep a note of your attendance in your diaries.
Kind regards Stuart

Hi all
Was a very positive meeting last week. Something for everyone:
- Students
- Newbies
- More established MIPs
Informative and encouraging.
If you haven't been already then it is definitely worth making the time to attend. Don't be put off by the prospect of a 'lecture' on filing systems - it is a fundamental part of our jobs!
Regards
Andrew

Hi Liz / Andrew
Andrew thankyou for your feed back it is greatly appreciated. I will touch base with you in the next week or so to go over the filing lecture with you (I usually fire a copy of anything I do off to Liz Needham she is excellent at correcting spelling, grammar etc etc).
Liz any help in developing the group would be most welcome. If you would like to put something together then by all means please do.
It is always good to find out why people are not attending these things when time after time people request the meetings.
I have discussed with Ami a Fiscal incentive of getting regular attendees a discount for bringing along new members to the group.
Kind regards Stuart

Hi Everyone,
I aimed to attend last meeting but cancelled last minute as I already attended a HMRC workshop the topic on the agenda!
LizF, it is a great Idea to draft few question and canvass members opinion on poor attendancy. This raise a question: How are you going to reach a significant representative sample in such a short time? The forum, in my opinion, will not help due to the current set up. The alternative would be ICB facebook but then again it is not busy enough!
Could the topic of the next meeting be briefly elaborated...it the filling system topic going to just list records required by the HMRC or is it going to be about a "real world case" Is company procedure going to be part of the discussion? Filling system is affected by company/organisation procedure should there exist any within the company/organisation. A case study from a well established bookkeeper implementing a filling system and procedure within a client business would be helpful. This is my suggestion.
Glad the next meeting is Wednesday instead of usual Thursday as it is not always convenient for me! I would be glad to catch up with members.
Kind Regards,
Nathaliexxx

Hi Liz
What do mean you wont have any answer by the next meeting....tut tut tut lol <-------just kidding
I think we should ask what day people prefer the meeting to be held on.
What would be the ideal time of the meeting.
these are two ideas for starters
warmest regards Stuart

Hi Nathalie
It is a shame you cancelled at the last minute you may have found we covered different topics from HMRC as VAT is a very very large topic indeed. You may have also been able to contribute to the lecture as you would have had fresh knowledge to offer the group so it is always worth attending as it is a two way process of sharing as well as gaining knowledge.
Andrew will be delivering a talk on the subject of the day to day filing we bookkeepers have to do and the various ways in which we can organise a clients records. I stand to be correct by Andrew but I do not think he will be looking at the HMRC online filing submissions.
I hope Andrew will touch on the records we are required to keep and how long for as well as the best way to store those records. However it is Andrews choice on what he does or does not wish to include, I am sure he will let us all know via the forum prior to the meeting.
A General concensus of opinion seems to be that a wednesday evening works better for most people hence why we are looking to fix the meeting on the last Wednesday of each month moving forward.
Thanks for contributions please keep them coming it is the only way we build a strong london region.
Kind regards Stuart

I agree, I found the VAT talk informative even though all my clients are on the standard accrual scheme it is useful to be aware of other schemes. As Stuart says VAT is such a huge and shifting subject you can't ever say you have it covered.
I am very encouraged by the prospect of practising members of the London group each holding a seminar on a subject. I'm looking forward to Andrews talk on filing systems, since it will give an insight into actual working practises rather than just stuff quoted from a text book.
I've just come through an external audit of one my customers, even though it's a small ltd co the directors decided to engage auditors - not because they thought their were incosistiencies in the accounts I should add. Whilst I was slightly nervous it is at the same time a great relief to know that your work meets the required standard. Big up to the ICB here, in less than a year I've gone from Student to Full Member passed their exams and produced a draft set of accounts which passes an external audit.
With the confidence of having done that I would like to volunteer to hold a seminar on till reconciliations and controls on cash handling at a future meeting. Not that I'm an expert but I work for 2 companies who run bars in different scenarios so I can demonstrate the procedures used.

Hi Stuart,
Yes I could a have shared the knowledge gained...Thursday was not convenient for me but I would not mind sharing knowledge in future. I also would like to contribute more. Hope Wednesday is convenient for the most of members. I will definetely attend the next meeting.
To Mikee, Excellent suggestion...I would like to know more about cash procedures having not learnt enough from my previous retail employer! Thanks
To Lizf, I would not state members are being prevented from attending meetings...That is not the message I tried to pass on! The fact is as Stuart mentioned above attendancy to CPD meeting is poor and need to be improved! This forum is too quiet compared to other bookeepers forum , this is also another fact! We all need to conduct meeting in way which would benefit members. The content of topics is the key. Collecting members opinion and suggestions on topics is the way to go.
Looking forward to meeting you all.
Kind Regards,
Nathaliexxx

Hi Mike
Well done on getting throught he Audit mate it is always a nice feeling when all your hard work gets the thumbs up.
I would be delighted to accept both your offer of giving a lecture and the subject matter. Perhaps you would like to prepare somthing for the November meeting.
To both Andrew and Mike could I ask that any handouts you produce contain the ICB crest as well as your company logo's. Could you send any handouts to both mayself at stuart.wildman@wellersaccountants.co.uk and I will also forward a copy to liZ Needham so we can proof read them for you.
One little correction I would like to make is that these lectures will be given by all members of the group from Students to Fellows!! Any one who wants to have a go look at the Level 1 - 3 Sylabus's and pick a topic off there. Any other ideas are also more than welcome. If it is large topic say accounting concepts pick a smaller area of that topic and do the lecture on that for example instead of trying to explain all the accounting concepts pick say the accruals concept and deliver the lecture on that.
Kind regards Stuart
PS Lizf can you drop me a line on the above e-mail so we can touch base re Survey monkey many thanks.

Hi Stuart
Sorry, I am unable to make the next meeting as I am away on business.
One thought would be to publish the next three meeting dates and locations so we can put it in our diaries.

I would have been there but I can only make a Wednesday.
I can never make it on a Wenesday because Chelsea often have a home game on a Wenesday.
Next Wenesday Chelsea are not at home but they are playing at Everton and I have got a ticket for that game.
So Mr Wildman please make the next meeting on a WEDNESDAY not a Wenesday:))))))

Am attempting to rearrange my schedule so can attend. Would love to meet fellow London-based bookkeepers and the subject of filing systems...a necessary evil!

Hi Stuart
I wont know if I'll be able to make it until the very last minute. As I'll be near the neighbourhood, would it be possible to potentially 'gate-crash'? I know this isn't very professional but I have a good excuse - meeting with a potential client!

I would have like to make the London meeting but I am afraid I cannot, but I am interested in Andrew's talk. I don't know how you are doing your talk, just from memory or if you have handouts, but if you do have any notes that you can pass my way, that would be really useful.
|
|
> Hi Lisa
I am afraid that part of the fees for the evening covers the cost of the handouts therefore it is policy not to forward handouts to those who do not attend the meeting (unless you a regular attendee of the meetings)
I apologise if this seems a bit draconian.
Kind regards Stuart > > >
