SAGE 50 Accounts 2011 - where do I stand with legal rights?

I was a member of SAGE Professional Bookkeepers Club for two years. From 1st Oct this Club is now obselete as they have merged it with Accountants Division. The price went up by £200 per year so I decided not to renew. My software still works on my pc but I thought about transferring the software to my laptop.

I called SAGE to ask for the activation code and there response was no as my 'licence' is now obselete. They have suggested I sign up for the accountants division to get the support.

Can anyone give advice as to where I stand legally? I have bought and paid for the software and it is mine to continue to use. Should something happen with my main office PC I would have thought I would be able to transfer the software on to another computer.

Hi Blueberry

Have you tried inputting the original activation code?

Hi Liz

I haven't got it, sadly. It wasn't with the original CD. I had to call SAGE to get it the first time and I don't think I made a note of it.... And they are refusing to give it to me again.

I think there is something missing here, l know that you can still ran your CD sent to you on your new computer then enter your CODE to start set - up, and it is for only 10 employees.

Hi

I started with the Bookkeepers Club in 2010 and the 2011 software was issued automatically as part of the ongoing subscription. I did install/upgrade to the newer version okay. The 'code' wasn't included in the software CD case. I only realised I needed it when I went to add another company - I had to call SAGE to get it. I entered the activation code into the software while on the phone and stupidly didn't make a note of it.

My understanding is that if you get the software from Sage bookkeeping or Accountants club you do not own the software it is licence to you. I know for payroll if you do not have a licence you can't submit the payroll year end. The accounts club has also now just gone up. But you now get the pass four or five years and all Sage 50 versions.

Hi

It is not clear as to whether you are trying to use your Bookkeepers Complemetary Copy as part of the club or whether you purchased client manager or a  licenced copy of Sage Line 50 for your practice .  The yare two different things.

.  Sage do not need to give  you a acitvation key if this is the case.  But if you say purchased client manager or a official copy for your practice they yes they must give you activation key.

I am a member of the Sage User Group and this is my understanding.  I hope this helps.

Geoffrey you are right about the payroll each year but this is covered under different rules .

I've looked in the 'about' section of the software and it says SAGE 50
Accounts Client Manager. I originally called to purchase SAGE and was
offered the Bookkeepers Club so I could pay by instalments. I took the later
but it looks like what you are saying is that it was included in the Club
benefits.

Hi Angie,
Under the terms and conditions for Sage Accountants Club the accounts software belongs to the member and is theirs should they leave the club.Depending on the software you need to re-activate it at the end of the licence period using a re-activation code obtained from Sage. You have certain information to provide in order to do this.  However, and payroll  software belongs to Sage. Perhaps try Sage again maybe you'll be more lucky. From experience I know talking to two different Sage consultants can be like talking to two different companies. At least with club membership you get directly to an accounts manager.
Best of luck
Tim
