Working with limited companies

I am currently awaiting my L2 Computerised result and  if I pass (fingers crossed) I aim to get my practice licence.

I just want to get clarification on whether I would be able to do bookkeeping for limited companies.  I appreciate that I wouldn't be able to draft final accounts/fixed asset register, but would I be able to do the trial balance/VAT returns etc as I would for a sole trader?

If I would be able to work for limited co's how likely/common is it for a limited co to use a bookkeeper for the day to day stuff and an accountant for final accounts etc.

Level 3 is on the cards but don't want to turn away business if I can get it...

Thanks for advice/guidance in advance.

Lou

Here's a list of what you can do at the various levels so basically you are correct.

I can't answer the other question - but I would assume it is quite likely/common.

Nothing to do with this thread - but I'm glad they've done away with that annoying thing when you try and paste something ( a link etc) into a post that you had to paste it into a box first and then into the post.

Hi Lou

My one and only client so far is a limited company, and I do all the day-to-day stuff, which I then hand over to the accountants for the end of year. I know a number of companies that work like that - I work mainly for the construction industry, but I imagine it's quite common elsewhere.

HI LouP

I have my Level 3 manual and am awaiting my Level 3 Computerised, I work partime for a Limited company
as a bookkeeper, and do up the final accounts but these are submitted to Accountants who prepare the
formal final accounts and submit them to HRMC. I also have a practice licence and have a few limited company
books that I also take up to final accounts, but then again they are passed on to Accountants to prepare the
year end accounts and do all the filing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks all for your guidance.  Will include limited companies in my search for clients then (subject to exam result - waited 3 weeks already so should be soon).
