Hi All
This is probably a question for James, and as it may be of use to others I though it migh be wothwhile asking on the forum.
If someone takes an exam and passes, but is not happy with the grade can they retake the exam in order to improve on the grade or are there some rules on this? We have never been asked this question by a student before until today.

Do I need to show my pass mark to customers (when I pass my level 2’s and have every thing I need to start up my business)? I passed with 89% but I completely messed up one task and made two hasty mistakes. If I didn’t make them mistakes I might have had a score of 95%.  But will it make a difference to the customers conference in me as a bookkeeper?

I have never been asked for my certificates or grades.  They are on my office wall, but I tend to meet clients at their place or a local hotel.  I don't think the actual grade matters as much as the pass/fail.

Lee you do not have to show people your grades, all that matters is whether you passed or failed. WHist I tend to tell people if I pass with Distinction that is just ego and not necessary!

If someone has previously passed an exam but retakes it to better their grade and fails - does the original pass still stand??

I have to agree with Kris on this one from a client perspective I don't think they are really interested if passed with flying colours or just passed all they care about is you have passed and are competent to do the job.

Kind regards

Might help with one's own confidence though.

Hi Clare

Apparently the original pass still stands. I wanted to get a better mark in my Level 3 Comp which I originally passed so I arranged to sit the exam again and ended up failing by 2% !! Cry It then suddenly dawned on me that I might have to resit it all again and downgrade my membership!! Thankfully, I phoned the ICB and they said that they go by your original pass and grade. I really want to finish all my exams this year, I've not long submitted the Payroll exam and I'm in the process of working towards the Self-Assessment. The thought of taking another exam was just too much..............

> Hi all

I am at the conference and have asked the question and lizzie (a member of the ICB team) has assured me that if you pass an exam retake it to try and improve your grade and subsequently fail the original pass will stand.

Kind regards
Stuart
