Just finished working through the course and wondering how to remember it all in the exam!

Any tips most welcome as I have a poor memory.

Hi Di,

Sitting the computer based mock is a must in my opinion.

Just sat my Level II Manual exam today and know I passed but waiting for my actual grade/percentage to appear on this website.  I have to reiterate how helpful the online mock was - it really gets you thinking in the right way for the actual exam and the format won't surprise you when you get to the test centre.  I felt like a criminal having to put every thing I had on me in the lockers and then having to display my bare arms to the test centre staff to prove I wasn't concealing anything!  Came home from the exam to find my computerised level II score had been posted and I passed that with 95% so all in all a great day and time for a well deserved drink before I move on to Payroll and SA Surprised

Hi Di,

I agree with Kerry...sit the computer based mock exam (highly recommended) and maybe even a couple of the downloadable exam papers...practice makes perfect. This will instil more confidence in you before you sit the actual exam.

Good luck Di and let us know how you get on Wink

1st post so hope I'm doing this right!!  Tried yesterday and obviously didn't as nothing appeared!Embarassed

I did the online mock yesterday and the best advice I can give is not to worry.  Also, make sure you know exactly what goes in each box on the VAT return!  Unlike the paper based mocks, which give you a copy of a VAT return to fill in, the online mock just gave boxes 1-9 with no descriptions as to what is to be contained in them.  This makes it essential that you know what figures are needed for each box.  And don't forget to write 'none' if there are no figures to go in a box.

Hopes this helps and I haven't spoken out of turn.Laughing

I can only reiterate what has already been said. DO THE ONLINE MOCK!

Not only will it prepare you for the proper exam style but you will find out any weak areas. Also, you get a wipe clean board to do all your calculations, use it to it's full extent, very helpful.

Most of all, don't worry.

Good Luck!

Bare arms.. you mean I need to take my jewellery off?  Some of it doesn't come off, it would need to be cut off... for an exam?!?!?!?

Sorry, that sounds really shallow, but the actual exam is too big to think about at the moment

Just read the answer about the VAT boxes and wish I hadn't read this thread.... this exam is scaring the willies out of me!!!

Thanks Lol

The ones that need to be cut off won't rattle anyway so I should be ok.

Personally still debating whether to do the exam anyway.  I don't need it for what I want to do as I want to be a "girl friday" for a small company so will be doing a LOT more than bookkeeping.  This will mean having the letters after my name are not so important, certificates to say i have completed the course would probably be enough.

Or this could be the coward in me talking!!!!

I just sat my exam and passed (waiting to find out what %). The online mock changed the way I approached my revision and I actually felt calmer after I sat it as I knew the format of what to expect. It wasn't just a set of random multiple choice questions as I thought it might be but flowed and was therefore easier to work through the answers. My advice is to practice control ledgers and ensure you have that absolutely straight in your head. A piece of advice given to me was if you aren't sure whether its DR or CR, work it back to the bank. Good luck to all those taking their exams

From my experience just take your time when you get to the exam workstation, and read through all the information on the screen before you press the start button as theres no going back. Knowing how to enter negative numbers is important!

Hi,

I've just done the online mock and was surprised at how little it seemed to test compared to the study guide I have.  The VAT return did have a link to a pdf version of a blank return but it wasn't obvious when I was entering my figures the first time around.  I only noticed when I was checking my answers.

One thing I find is useful is when it supplies you with multiple choice answers, figures out the answer in your head first before looking at the options.  I found I could get easily confused if I didn't.

Hope this helps.

Oops!!  I obviously missed that!  But as VAT was the one bit I wasn't worried about I guess I didn't look to hard.

Is the exam done on a computer then?  I know the one at the end of my level 1 section is online from home but I assumed (from what I read in the woods book) that the second one was a proper paper based exam.  It said all about making sure you can write numbers neatly and to T accounts neatly and how you will struggle to have enough time to do the exam if you cannot work fast.  imho the book did a great job of terrifying me of the exam in it's first pages... to the extent that I question whether I want the stress.

Hi Evurr

The Manual Level II  is now a centre based exam, completed on computer but there is a paper based mock you can do first as well as an online one.  I wouldn't worry too much, get Level I done and you'll feel more confident.  There are lots of posts on this forum on this subject already and I would suggest having a look under 'examinations' on the website which explains the process in more detail.
Good luck with your studies!
