Hi Denise

One option to get you up and running quickly and cheaply is to put your details on freeindex.co.uk - you can include details of your services, photos etc. so it's quite handy if you don't have much of a budget for marketing. A web developer I spoke to recently actually said this was a good option, because it can get you quite high up on Google (no guarantees, of course). There are various other free listings sites that you could investigate too.

I just recently had a website done by a developer local to me (in Derby) and I'd be happy to recommend him if you'd like something similar - it depends how much you might want to spend. It's a fairly basic one at the moment, but I think it looks professional. I just provided the content, and he did a couple of designs for me to choose from.

Essentially to create a website you need 3 things.  You need the actual website itself, that is the HTML, PHP etc code.  You need a domain name (the .co.uk or .com thing) and you need hosting (a computer constantly onlie where you save your site to).

The domain name is likely to cost about £5 per year.  The hosting a few pounds per month. The money is in the design of the site itself.

It really depends on your budget, and what you want to get from your website.  If it's to be a static website of a few pages I would say you're looking at about £100 to get it designed and up.  If you want a few more bells and whistles you could be getting more towards and over the £1000 mark.

If you need something basic I'm happy to put a template site together for you (free of course!) and you would just need to worry about the hosting and domain name, maybe about £40 in all.

Good luck.

Kris

Hi Denise

This site may help http://www.gbbo.co.uk/index

Not used it myself (have built a wordpress site) but looks like they give quite a bit of support and the learning module may be of use.

i started with the above and got my domain for free!!!

it is a really quick and free way of starting, however at times i found it a bit hard to understand the terminatlogy!

something i would say is consider paying for one... my website (www.batemansbookkeepers.co.uk) cost £100 for the logo, website & the firsts years hosting.

Expensive? I think not for the service and the amount of clients I seem to have pulled through it it has paid for itself ten fold!

good luck x

Hi Denise,

I was just like you few month ago...I did not know where to start. First question you need to answer to is: Can you get someone else to do the job completely for you?/financial cost or Are you actually willing to take a time and do it yourself from a template?

Denise you are lucky cause Kris has offered to built a template for you, which is nice of him!

What you need to know , it is crucial, is How to optimise your web, what wording to use for your site to appear on the search,  how to monitor the site traffic etc..The advantage of  contributing in building your own site from template is you learn about the technical side therefore it will be easier to maintain it! A well looked after and maintained site is one of the requirement for you site to appear on the search result. Another advantage is you are completely in control of your site in terms of maintenance. Remember you will need to add, amend, alter your site and the last thing you need is to be calling the web developer asking for help in explaining how to maintain your site!

I decided to built mine from a template I am not done yet but I have learnt and it is costing me less than to get someone else to built it! Cost is under 100£ so far! I wanted a logo which I now got and know exactly what i want to achieve.

I choose www.one.com an american company, i got my domain, unlimited e-mail, template, 24h help through chat, i even got a cloud drive space just paying a tenner for a set up! First year is free!

All the best,

Kind Regards,

Hi Denise, there are also a number of cheap templated options you could try like www.doyourownsite.co.uk or www.mrsite.co.uk. You could be up and running very quickly provided you have your text and any other content ready.

Hi Denise,

I need to know a bit about you and your new business, the services you offer, any testimonials you have etc.

Also which colours you'd like.  Do you have a logo or do you need one?

If you have a prefered domain name, you can pop over to http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ and register it before anyone else.  I'd advise you stick to .co.uk extentions unless you have a great reason not to.  Oh, and don't take any of their added extras.  It should be £7.18 for 2 years inc VAT for a co.uk, if it's more check you haven't taken their extras.

You can email me it information at kris@kmbookkeeping.co.uk and I'll put something together for you to have a look at and we can start there.
