Urgent: time for self assessment exam - 4 days only, this can't be right?

Hi there,

May I ask how long do you get for completing your self assessment exam? I thought it was 2 weeks, but I just received my paper today and I only get 4 days including today!? Not sure this is right? I called the ICB but no answer. Could someone please advise me what is going on as I still need a bit longer time than 4 days to do the exam and really not well prepared for 4 days...

Looking forward to your thoughts.

When did you book the exam? Has there been a long delay in it arriving?
If it was booked recently then it looks like a mistake. Phone them up on Monday. Don't panic - and don't rush the exam thinking you have only four days. There has either been a problem with the post or a mistake with them putting the date on the exam to be returned. Both were outwith your control.

There won't be any answer (by phone) at the ICB as it's the weekend although maybe one of them will see this on the forum.

Thanks Peasie,

I called and made the order for the exam on Friday 2 Dec, yesterday actually. And received the post today: I am impressed with the fast delivery, but on the other hand did get a bit dizzy when I saw "07 Dec 2011" was presented on the front page as deadline time. Do you reckon they will correct the mistake and give me the 14 days I desire?

Yes.
It's a genuine mistake - just phone them on on Monday morning to confirm when the actual deadline date is. Also whether you need to put in a covering letter as it will be a different person answering the post when you return the exam and they may see the date and throw it aside.

Anna,

Have you looked on the ICB website in "My results", it may have the correct date there.  I am sure it will be sorted on Monday, you don't return the exam paper so it is the date ICB have that is important.

Good luck, I am waiting for mine to be marked!

Hi Peasie and Sylvia,

Thanks for the support, I am so glad to say that problem has been solved. I called ICB on Monday and they were very helpful, hope things don't go wrong any more from here. I think I'd better enclose a covering letter as Peasie suggested.

Anna - as things have been sorted out now I think the cover letter will not be needed. It may actually confuse matters. I was forgetting that you keep the exam paper which has the date on. So the only date which matters is the date the ICB have since told you.

Good luck with the exam. You might pass first time but don't be too concerned if you don't. If a mistake is made they'll let you know - you then have to show them you understand how you've made a mistake and what the correct figure should be.
