Level III Manual Exam

Hi Everyone
I recently purchased from a Home Learning provider a "Complete Bookkeeping Course" which included courses for Level I, Level II both manual & computerised and finally level III computerised. I have worked extremely hard these past 6 months and have now completed all 4 courses and about to send off for the level III computerised exam. Initially when I started, the 4 courses was enough to gain  "Member" level however as the membership structure has now changed, I will need to undertake Level III manual also.
As I have already spent rather a lot of money on the courses, mocks and exams I really do not want to spent a further £300 on the course that my original learning provider is charging therefore could anybody who has studied and sat the Level III manual exam please advise if you feel that purchasng the Advanced bookkeeping book would be enough for me to pass the exam rather than undertaking an actual course.
I know the book states that it is not a replacment for a course but I have knowledge from my Level III computerised course of requirements so I am hoping that it will be a sufficient base to start.
In addition, I referred very few queries to my tutor during all my previous courses and still managed to gain distinction in both my level II exams (really proud to state that I gained 100% on the computerised!)

Any comments would be most appreciated from anybody that has experienced this exam.

I am also hoping that Santa will be bringing me the Advanced Bookkeeping book for christmas as I have been good this year.
Regards

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

The decision depend on your ability to study the advanced bookeeping book, answer and understand answers supplied by the book without the help of your tutor.

If you have an accounting background already, I would not purchase the course! The forum is also available for any help. The book provided by the ICB is very good. I am intending to keep it after passing my exam cause it has got a lot of activities explaining various practical bookkeeping scenarios. Activities question are more difficult than the mock exam. If you manage to go through and fully understand all activities, You will pass manual level3 with high score.

All the best,

Nathaliexxx

Hello Sarah,

First congratulations on completing level II with such high marks, and fingers crossed that you get a good level III computerized result.

I did things the other way round to you.  I did a course for manual level III and then just did a few mock exams for the computerized exam, before jumping in and doing it.  I managed to pass with a merit which I feel is probably a lower than I would have got if I had taken a course.  So it is possible to do it that way round.

I did my level II computerized course though Learning Link, and I wasn't very impressed with the quality.  I my mind it was just listed of steps required to complete a certain action without informing you what was happening in the background.  I can not say if this is the same for the level III course as I've never take it, or for other providers.

As Nathalie said the books from the ICB (published by Kaplan) are very good.  I got the advanced bookkeeping book and advanced bookkeeping kit, after I completed my exams and have found them great reference books and I have also learnt a lot from them.

Not really an answer to your question, but I thought I would give you my experience.

HI,
You could buy the mock exam, and this will help you make your own mind up, if you feel you need more information then look into purchasing the level III manual but as you have said you have already done really well so far so you might find that you are confident enough to do the exam.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for all your comments guys

I do very much enjoy studying from the books and found the Kaplan basic bookkeeping book very helpful when I first started so I think that I may take all your advise and get the book and use this forum to gain better undertanding on anything that I may not grasp fully. I will then look at buying a mock and see how confident I feel then before deciding to go for the exam. I just wasn't sure if the book covered everything required for the exam.

Wishing you all a lovely christmas in the meantime

Sarah x
