Hello all

I have received an enqury from a protential customer (my first), his accountant has sold up and moved away and he is looking for someone to do his books and get them up to date, only problem is how would i get hold of his accounts now?
Can i start up new accounts using an opening balances from when and if i take him on or not?
This customer could lead to several other customers from the same accounts in the same position.

Any advise will be gratefully appreciated Smile

Hi,

I'd have a look and see what he has for this year.  I assume he is moving to you part way through a year?  If so, and the accounts are in a reasonable order I'd continue from there (assuming you have the same package) otherwise I'd be inclined to do from the last year end again.  This will give you a little more confidence in the figures you are using.

Hope this helps.

Hello Kris

Thank you for your reply, as he hasn't got his accounts i was thinking of setting him up on the accounts system i would be using since im starting from scratch and so i can get to know his accounts, the regular goings on and how he works and going back a year like you said as hes still got all his receipts etc.
It will be a lot of work but he is willing to pay when i explained we will be starting from stratch and i think it would be worth it in the long run and if it brings other customers my way i cannot complain Smile
Regards Sian

I think you are making the right decision.  There's nothing worse than trying to work from someone elses figures, especially when you are starting out.

Good luck, I hope it's the first of many.
