Hiya,
I was just wondering what you would do with receipts form supermarkets that are not VAT receipts - do not have a VAT breakdown.
For example, I have got some receipts from Icelands and Sainsbury's that do not mention VAT at all, and I can see on the icelands receipt that it has crisps on it, which I thought were standard rated.
It was my understanding that if there is no VAT receipt, then you cannot reclaim the VAT, so the whole (gross) amount would be debited to expenses and credited to bank. Is this correct? (even when the supplier is VAT registered like these supermarkets)
I have seen on a forum somewhere that tesco can produce a VAT receipt given the barcode on the normal receipt, is this something that is also true of the other supermarkets?
Thanks,
Cheryl
