I have read recently on the ICB forum that it is possible to use QuickBooks in a professional capacity for more than one company/business. Can anyone so-doing please confirm this, please?

I have been to Intuit's web-site, but cannot find an answer to this question, even on their ProAdvisor Programme page. I called their helpline, but the advisor couldn't understand my question, and I couldn't understand his English - so not much help!

I want to purchase the software, and I want to use it as a professional bookkeeper to keep accounts for all/any of my clients, not just my own accounts.
I hope this makes sense?

Thank you

PS. I'm currently using QuickBooks Online free 30-day trial, and I can't find anything in the software itself either...

Yes, you can open a new company on QB. Click on file then click on new company then carry on following the boxes this then would set up the the new company.
I have only the QB free starter edition, which I downladed to have a look at, on this I have set up four dummy companies so far!

Hi Paul

I can only assume that you have a different version; i don't even have 'File', let alone take it any further.
Are you using QuickBooks Online, or is there a downloadable version of the software, if so, from where, please?

UPDATE: I have just discovered that with the online version of QuickBooks I would need to take out a new subscription for each company...
Still curious about the desktop version though Undecided

I have the downloadable (desktop) version of QB. Definately can set up new companies by clicking on file on top left hand corner then new company and go from there.
Possibily the online version is different as it is cheaper?! Not had the experience with online QB (have looked at Zero).
They say this is the same with the Sage online.
I think what I understand the Desktop versions seems to geared up with accountants/bookkeepers.

I think you are correct with regard the cost element.
Thanks for your help.

PS. Any issues you don't like about QB from a professional point of view?

Yes, you can have multiple companies on the desktop version of Quickbooks. It's my preferred software and I must have about 25 clients on it at the moment.

Quickbooks online is completely different and you do have to purchase a license for each customer.

It does seem to a good software and cheaper than sage, But the downside at the moment it doesn't support VAT Flat rate scheme as Sage does!? I might stand to be corrected hope so!!

Which edition are you using, Premier or Pro?
Is there a limit to the number of companies, and/or is it an additional cost per 1/5/10 etc. companies, or is it an all-inclusive purchase price?

Thanks in advance...

> Hi Wilbur

Quickbooks allows for unlimited companies to be set up at no additional cost.

It should not matter wether you are using pro or premier.

My understanding is the only platform that limits the number of companies is the online or cloud version this is because the licensing is different as online you are using software as a service.

I hope this helps

Kind regards
Stuart
