Payroll exam - studying and software

I've read up on a few threads that say people have bought a Sage Self Study course off Amazon to help them study for the payroll exam.  Stupid question time - if I do that, do I then have to use Sage for the exam?

A few people have recommended Moneysoft to me, but if I do use that, what materials can I use to study?

It's several years since I've done payroll.  Whilst I still know the basics, I do need to brush up my knowledge before I tackle the exam.  I wanted to sit down with a free trial of software, some study materials, and a few mock exams before I do the realy thing.

Help!!!

Hi

Sage Payroll is by far the best and easiiest to self teach and run. Word of advice though, go through Sage themselves or through myself (!)-  a registered Sage business partner. Visit Sage website but ignore their prices as I get reseller discounts which are huge. Sage One or 50 Payroll are ones I recommend. You can add on the self study package but to be honest you get 45 days free tech support from Sage themselves when you buy a product so you can pretty much use their help to teach yourself.
Hope this helps!

Just spotted Sage Instant Workbooks on the Sage website for £45, and come with a free 180 trial.  Will they do for the exam?

That's what I used and the HMRC website. The studybooks were good they should you the manual of doing but everyone uses software these days. I know use moneysoft because it is so much cheaper than sage and I find it quicker and the reporting is better but they don't give you the basics like the sage study books do.

Hi

If it's certification you are after then go for this one which is £50 and you receive a certificate at the end of it.

Hello.

I have recently requested the payroll exam, and I was going to use Payroo free online software however, this is for the 2012-13 tax year and my exam is 2011-12, the ICB say that this is not suitable, and will make my examination void, however, I cannot find any 2011-12 software anywhere, which is also for free?

any suggestions.

Thanks
