Payroll software recommendations please...

Hi, I desperately need Payroll software recommendations.

After having a number of problems with sage  - instant accounts (payslips not detailed enough as need them to show hourly rate, number of hours worked etc...) and Sage 50 causing more problems than I can go into... I need a reputable piece of software which offers all the normal requirements (monthly and year end reports, yearly updates so all legislation changes upto date) and the ability to tailor the payslips.

Thank you!

Hi Amy,

I have used Mamut Payroll for a number of years now and this will give you everything you require.
It is charged on an annual basis but it includes the support. You can have a licence for up to 50, 100 or unlimited employees. This total of employees is used over as many companies as you wish but you have to take into account any leavers who do not come off until the end of the tax year.
They are very helpful, even to the point that on Friday I had a new PC installed and they remotely transferred all my data for the previous 4 years from my old PC at no extra charge.
I also use Sage for certain clients who have their own software and although it is very good  I prefer Mamut.
Let me know how you get on.

Hi Amy,

I use Mamut Payroll software and this will give you everything you asked for. It is charged as an annual fee which includes support. The licence can be for 50, 100 or unlimited employees spread over unlimited amount of companies. All you have to remember is that leavers count as employees until the end of the tax year. They are very helpful and this Friday they transferred 4 years of payroll info remotely for me onto a new PC I had installed as part of the support package.
I use Sage at some clients premises and although it is very good it is rather expensive. Mamut costs me less than the support costs charged by Sage per annum!
Best of luck! Marilyn

Moneysoft has been recommended on here by many and I am trialing it at the moment (30 day free trial).  It is very user friendly and you can have up to 100 companies ( on the one I have). It costs around £100 for a full licence, i think.  So far I am pretty impressed!

Hi - have used Sage, Iris, Iris Basics and Moneysoft and I would go with the Moneysoft every time. Its easy to use, cheaper than most other packages and does everything it says on the tin - hope that helps Smile

12pay is worth a look.  They have a free version too for up to 3 companies.

Hi

I use sage and it is excellent for payroll and some of my clients also use sage one.

Ami I am a bit confused as there loads of versions of the payslips and sage does do hourly rates and number of hours worked and keeps and track of holiday and hours work.  The reporting structure is also excellent.

Hi Amy,

We use QTac Payroll Manager here - perfect for busy practices offering payroll software, but equally as good for companies operating 'in house' payroll.

The reports are clear and concise - all on one sheet too (unlike Sage which produces a small pamphlet of reports every month!). The payslips are adaptable and also come in a wide variety of layouts. Everything it produces can also be in pdf and emailed, with no fuss, even P60's. The font is good too, large and easy to read (unlke Sage with it's miniscule 'times new roman').

You can back process easily and make other adjustments, record all the absence types, holidays AEO's etc.
You can also process into the new financial year without doing the year end P35 first, (unlike Sage instant payroll - the Line 50 does allow this).

One really good feature is a payroll calculator which runs outside of the main database, perfect for 'what if' scenarios (Client "If I pay my new staff member £30k pa, how much will their net pay be?") .

There's also a CIS module included, enabling monthly CIS return and produces CIS Deduction Statements.

It will help when the pension legislation comes in too, automatically identifying 'eligible employees'.

The pricing is an annual fee, banded on the number of employees, with unlimited companies.

We use 100 employee version - £375 per year unlimited support included, but prices start from £120 pa.

Check out www.qtac.co.uk if you want to know more. Theres a free trial and the software can be downloaded if you want to proceed.

MONEYSOFT PAYROLL MANAGER!

It is a joy to use - the opposite of S**e!

Thank you everyone - I have decided on MoneySoft, as long as client is happy with reporting side of it.

After using Sage Instant Payroll (which I loved the look of, but found pretty inflexible), Sage 50 was overly complicated (and the installation was a total nightmare, as it overwrote Instant payroll!). MoneySoft seems to be a good inbetween program and far, far cheaper.

Thanks agin for the recommendations! Hope others out there find this useful too.
