Home to Work mileage

It has come to my attention that a client who has an employee has been paying Mileage Allowance payments for Home to work mileage since January this year.  My feeling is that the home to work mileage part of his mileage expense claim should be considered as taxable earnings but could anyone confirm if this is correct?

Thanks

home to work / work to home - is not a tax deductable expense.

I was on a HMRC course recently and that is what we were told.  If you drive to work, then have a business meeting elsewhere - that is allowable.  But not the initial home to work and home again.

Kind Regards

Apologies Alex, I re-read your post and realised I never actually answer your question.  I was on a totally different planet I think.

I do think your right, this would be considered as taxable earnings.  But I would like to hear from other ICB members and see what their thoughts are.

Kind regards

Hi Alex/Paula

Yes I agree with Paula, they should be treated as taxable earnings.  If the employee is a regular employee travelling to and from the same place of work every day then these journeys should not be counted for mileage allowance purposes.
