Director's NI

I'm doing the payroll year end for a client, and have just realised that when the previous bookkeeper set up the employee records, she didn't mark the director as a director, so his NI contributions are wrong as a result (he's paid too much because he didn't reach the annual NI threshold at all).

What should I do about this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Hi Kate,

I think he should be able to claim it back.  According to this link from HMRC he should be notified if he's paid too much, but may be worth writing anyway.

Thanks very much for your help Pauline - am I right in thinking there's nothing I can do myself then? I wondered if I might be able to correct it before submitting the P35.
