I'm sure this is a regularly seen topic.

I'm currently just waiting to finish my HNC in accountancy (Final Exam in 14 days and counting) and just thought I'd ask this question before I work my way through levels I and II over the summer months.

"Will achieving Levels I and II help me in getting my career kick started?"

I left the Navy a year ago with little relevant work experience in this field thinking that getting the HNC/D  would help push my career further on but every CV I send out gets either a "You've got no experience" response if I'm lucky or no response at all. When I went to a recruitment centre I literally got told that unless I had work experience no matter the qualifications I'd achieve I would never get a position.

So, what sort of roles should I be pursuing, also where can I find them? I'll be honest I left the Navy very institutionalised and have very little understanding of civillian recruitment. processes.

The advantage of your ICB qualifications is that you will be in a position to set up your own practice and therefore won't face the "lack of experience" naysayers.

That said, I think it is important to get some experience.  Maybe you could see if a local charity needs some bookkeeping help while you are studying.  Can't hurt, can it!
