Now that the Avon branch has been established in Bath with a very successful first meeting, Somerset is the last of the South West counties and currently remains inactive. Are there any members in the county who would like to be involved in the setting up of the Somerset branch, preferably in or around Taunton.

Woo hoo, just passed my Level 2 manual exam so I have finally got around to answering this call. It's a bit tumble weed round here isn't it!
I would be interested in being involved if meetings could be held on Saturdays during the day. My partner has health problems and evenings are not always his best time and my daughter is able to stay with friends Saturday daytimes if he is not feeling too good.

A new idea!
No branch meetings have been organised for a Saturday as yet but we could have a go and see if any members turnup. We need a venue, probably no cost for the first  mtg to see how many turn up.  Find a venue, pick a date a few weeks ahead and we can advertise thru the forum and the events /shop pages. First mtg is about the members & students, networking and discussing future requirements. Where are you based? I can chair the first  mtg to support the launch of the group.

Hi Gill

If you do fancy having a go at setting up a meeting in Somerset please let me know and I can help to point you in the right direction, I am the South West Chairman and the it would be good to get Somerset up and running and then the South West is all covered! I will then organise a meetup/event for all the regions in the South West so we can all meet up and share experiences!

I am in Wells and I don't know of a venue in Wells that would let us have a room for free. The Wells and Mendip Museum  would be a suitable venue. The charge for a half day for their meeting room hire is £36. I can make enquiries on Wednesday when the office manager is in if you would like me to make a booking.

I could get to a Taunton venue, though I'm in Devon, close to the Devon/ Somerset border.  Also for much the same reasons as Gill, Saturday day time would be good for me.
Have you any thoughts of a venue in Taunton Ken?

To all members and students in Somerset

I am planning to create a Somerset branch in the New year, probably in February. This will be chaired by myself with the intention of setting up the branch for the long term. We will need firstly a good venue, suitable for a professional meeting with speakers but also at a reasonable price ( most branches operate on up to £50 for 2 hours ).  Secondly  the meeting will need to elect a branch chair and other members to assist with admin, eg. mtg minutes, bookings etc.  If anyone has ideas or knows a venue please contact me at ---
