Software recommendations

Hello
I am currently looking after a small private school who currently do all their financial transactions on excel. The Head is very keen to get it an accounts package which I strongly support.

Cost is a key factor in deciding which software but it needs to be able to do the usual fee invoices, normal supplier invoices and ideally cost centres to produce management reports. It can be online or desktop package.

Any recommendations??

Thanks, Sam Page

Hello Sam,

I would recommend Xero £19 per month unless you have more than 2 clients setup, then you get a 25% discount,
you get a months free trial, it does everthing you are asking for.

Hi Sam,

I found Quickbooks Pro 2012 desktop version to be very good. Only Costs approx. £133.00 on Amazon and produces hundreds of reports.

I've just bought VT transaction + and I'm loving it. £150 including VAT and youdownload it straight from the internet.  I'm really impressed with how easy it is to use - and it's really quick.  Have 5 customers on there already and I've got 2 new ones to put on in the next few weeks. Definately worth a look.

I agree, I've had VT transactions for ages and I find it so much easier than Sage to use. I've converted all my customers now. It's good to hear how people find other products work for them too.

Hi Everyone,

What would you recommend to Mac users?

I previously ask a question on previous post and had no answer.

Does quickbook work on Mac?

Kind Regards,

I prepapre accounts for a local school and use Sage One. it costs them £5 per month for the software and then whatever you charge on top. I charge £30 + VAT and it works perfectly. Sage is ideal as it's easy to monitor grant income and expenditure. I've tried other packages and find this to be the best.

Hope this helps?

Thankyou everyone

I use VT Software myself and really do like it however they want the system on their PC as once it is up and running I will hand over to someone as I am only iterim cover at the moment.

Foxechick - how did you get Sage one for £5 a month? I have just downloaded a trial, liked it but it states £10 a month which may then go out of budget,

I am currently thinking TAS basic as it is free and seems to do the basic functions

What about Sage Instant or Quickbooks? both are a reasonable cost.

I am using both VT+ and Sage 50 depending on client size/needs. Although I am a big fan of VT and find it really easy to use, having recently purchase a Sage accountant plus package with Sage 50 client manager included, I can also say that Sage is excellent and I am very happy with it. It beats VT on some things, so it depends on what the client needs.

If you choose Sage instant, then you will get better reporting than with VT, also VAT cash accounting is easier in Sage.
