Expenses Query - Can you claim for renting car for a couple of days?

Dear All,

I have just started doing a year's accounts for a local children's nursery.  The owner's car went into the garage for a couple of days and she rented a car.  She claims her petrol use.  Am I okay to put the cost of renting a car into the books as a taxable expense?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi again Janie,

I my humble opinion if the lady normally only claims her petrol use then the cost of renting the car would NOT be an allowable business expense.  She would however be able to claim the business miles she did in the hire car the normal current rate of 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles & 25p per mile thereafter.

Rgds,

Hello Jo,

Thank you - I did have a niggling doubt in my mind and you've sorted that out for me.
