Sage 50 Accounts Professional 2011 - Chart of Accounts help please!!

Hello

I would be most grateful if there is anybody out there who can help me.

I am using a client's Sage software and they don't have a support package so I can't call to ask Sage themselves.

Does anybody know if there is a way of adding a new category type to the chart of accounts?

My client want the dividend (which is currently sitting in Overheads) moved to below the net profit with a further "Net Profit after Dividends" total adding.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks for any help you can give

Kind regards

Hi Sandra

I'm not sure if you can edit the categories for the chart of accounts - maybe a more advanced Sage expert can help - as dividends would not normally be shown in the P&L (they are not an overhead) but in the balance sheet.

Having said that I too have a Ltd Co client who (as many very small owner managed businesses do) views the dividend as wages and likes to see the 'net profit after dividends' so they can see how much they have 'left'.  In this case I use the Excel Integrated Reporting to produce customised management accounts.  Remember not to deduct from net profit before provision for CT is calculated.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but as no one else had replied I thought I would have a go !!!

Thank you for that Anne.

My client is after exactly the same as yours - and what they want is what they want!  Whether it fits or not!!

It is only for a picture - I ensure that everything is in the correct place before I make any provisions, but thanks for checking.

I thought it was going to be a jigger pokery think in excel to report it.

Thanks again

Hi there,

You cannot add extra sections to Sage 50.  You are limited to
Sales, Purcjhases, DIrect Expenses, Overheads, Taxation, Fixed Assest, Current Assets,  Current Liabilities, Long Tern Liabilites and Capital & Reserves.

A way to get around it would be to use the OBDC driver and link the balances to Excel, then create your Management Reports from there

 Hope this helps

Martin

[Hazel Marshall] Hiya

I use Sage 50 (Accounts Plus 2012) & I had a play with one of my Ltd companies (after backing up of course!) & I was able to tweak it to do what you want.

I went to nominal, COA, Edit, in the P&L section go to “Taxation” (right column) & re-name it “Dividends”, then go to the chart underneath & in the left column type Dividends, in the right column type in the nominal account code in “Low” & in “High”, check & save.

I suppose it depends on what version of Sage your client has…….

I hope this is of some help!

Hazel
