Have just completed my first self-assessment for a client online directly through the HMRC site.I am aware however that there are a number of software packages available - but am trying to understand the benefits of using these over the HMRC site directly. I have a trial of TaxCalc 2012 which I've been having a bit of a play with, but can't quite get my head around why use (and pay for) that rather than cutting out the middleman.Am sure there must be good reasons - can anyone enlighten me?Lou
I've tried many but keep returning to Andica for a number of reasons. It's easy to use, reasonably priced and easy to increase the limit of tax returns when needed.Kris

Thanks Kris, but can you explain (briefly) what it does over and above the HRMC site? At the moment only have a few SA to complete so not worth buying software, but it is more effective to have specialist software for more clients??Lou
