Hi

I am currently working towards my PAYROLL exams but the company i am working for have said that i can practice my skills by setting up their payroll and processing weekly payslips for them. I work for this company as an employee over and above my own practice. At the moment they have outsourced the payroll and now the payroll company have sent me the sheets to imput into my own payroll software.

What advise can you give me as to where to start as i have the P11s for the employees so i can get the basic information from them such as YTD figures, NI numbers,  qualifying days, and previous amounts paid.  There are two leavers which have now left do i need to enter them into my payroll or just keep the P11s for the end of year.

Can anyone give me help.

Thank you

Domino
I would think that you would need to add the two leavers otherwise the figures for PAYE and NIC for the company would not be correct at the end of the year. (next April).
It would be worth phoning HMRC to check this.

Hi Domino,
Yes you have to enter all employees into the payroll software including leavers.
You will need to enter employment start dates and leave dates plus all the wages info to date for all employees.
Once you have done this I would print off the P11 reports to check they match with the ones you have received from previous payroll provider. I would also check the P32 PAYE & NI reports match with payment made to HMRC. If they agree then you can commence processing payroll. Keep all paperwork as proof.
I have done this many times for clients and it can be time consuming but you will get there in the end.
Regards,
Marilyn

Thank Marilyn and Kev i will get this information. At the moment i am using Moneysoft Payroll and not quite sure if the YTD figures I am entering correctly into Payroll. I have used the start in mid year Start option and it is asking for Total taxable pay would i be right in thinking that this is the totals to date figure as the previous bookkeeper was using TasPayroll.

Thank you

Hi Domino,

Yes you are right....it is asking you to input the total figures for pay and tax to date.
