Hi all

I have a client who has finished employing people and no longer needs to be registered as an employer. Can I file his payroll year end now through Sage or do I need to wait till after April 5th next year?

Many thanks for your help

Hi Sharon,

Firstly, it would appear you do not have qualification for payroll through ICB?
You can file the year-end now as HMRC would request this from you if you are their agent.
I have never done this through Sage Payroll but other payroll programs have a box you tick and you have to enter the date they ceased to be an employer so I would assume Sage has this also.

Hi Marilyn

Thanks for the reply, I have completed my payroll through ICB, I'd better get on the phone and ask why its not showing up! I'm looking at my Level III diploma in payoll management sat proudly on my office wall as I write. Hmmm?

I'll get onto Sage as I can't find anything on the payroll to cease my client and file the year end on there, I really dont want to have to input all the employees onto the HMRC website as he had 26 of them, too time consuming to do so.

Many thanks

Hi Sharon,

Have you produced the P45 Leavers yet?
Once you have done that and go to do the year-end there should be a section that allows you to enter date of cessation as employer. I know it does with other payroll program that I have used.
Glad you have qualification for payroll - yes get onto ICB to get this sorted!!!

Oooh my silly fault, just phoned ICB and was told I hadn't re-newed my payroll membership when I did my bookkeeping membership last week! All done now, £15.50 lighter but feel better now thats done.

Right, back on subject again, I've found it just where you said it would be, perhaps this rotten cold is getting the better of me and I need to go home and have a nice hot bath and an early night.

Goodnight all.
