Erm...help?

Gosh, I don't know where to start with this. Bear with me.

I've done level 1 manual and level 2 comp, but I've stalled on taking level 2 manual and getting the practise license.

Here's the problem; whilst the idea of self-employment appeals, the reality seems to be that the whole world and his dog has had the same idea, especially with so many people losing their jobs over the last five years. Reading various forums it seems that there are too many bookkeepers (some of them vastly experienced) scrambling around for a small number of clients.

I really don't see the point of dropping £200+ for the exam, the practise license, the increased membership fee and everything else just to become part of a saturated market.

I'm in the Salisbury area, and I know that circumstances vary by region but are there any other bookkeepers around here? How are you finding it at the moment, if that's not too vague and stupid a question?

Damn it, I should have come to the meetings.

I am the Branch Chairman of the Wiltshire ICB Meeting and I am actually based in Salisbury. There are a few of us from either Salisbury and the surrounding area as well as other towns from South Wiltshire. We get on well together and don't see each other as a 'threat'! In fact, being ICB members is a good way to get our name out there and fight off the competion from non-members. There is a lot of new businesses starting up every week so there is a lot of opportunities out there for all of us, especally if we are prepared to work hard, then will be able to reap the benefits.

Yes, you will be very welcome at the next meeting meeting in November, date to be confirmed, so keep an eye out on the events page! We are a mixed group who at various degrees of membership and in practice, some established or just starting out. So far we have had a accountant and a web developer come to us with great prensentations. You will be able to network with other members and get inspired!

With what is going on with HMRC and ICB national and global, we all need to updated, and this is one way we can be involved in the various branch meetings up and down the country and be part of a large wonderful international family!

See you at the next meeting!

Paul

I'm one of Paul's group.  I find the meetings very useful, and we have a giggle too.  The meetings have only been going for a few months, but we are enjoying finding out about eachother and helping eachother.  You would be made very welcome at any of our meetings.  We are very easygoing and relaxed.  Nothing to stuffy, seems to suit us fine.
Look forward to the meeting you at the next meeting.
(Paul, my Chamber of Trade meeting is on a Tues, so you can go ahead with the Monday date).

Sorry for the overuse of the word "meetings" in my previous post.
