Studying for Payroll

Hi all,

I'm looking into the different Payroll courses and have got confused.

Is the Diploma In Payroll Management the best course to do?  There are others like Sage 50 Payroll Levels 1 and 2.

Also some course providers supply Sage Instant Program and some supply the Sage 50.  Would it be best to use the Sage 50 or will it not matter?

And finally, is it worth paying more for the course which includes the full software, instead of just 180 day software?

Will appreciate an response, these courses are a lot of money so I want to be sure that I am purchasing the right one.

To be accredited by the ICB for payroll, and to be covered by your practice license to do payroll, you must do the ICB diploma in payroll management.

I did mine using a Sage training package, using their booklets and 180 day tria softwarel.  It was an excellent course and the software was great.  However I now use Payroll Manager for my clients which is multi-company and the same price as a single license with Sage.  I still use Sage Payroll at one of my clients but it is the software they already had installed.

Sage is good, don't get me wrong, but the cost is prohibitive for a newly qualified bookkeeper. Payroll MAnager is just as good but more cost effective.

Good luck, and hope this helps.

Kind regards

Hi Debbie, thanks for your reply.

I see Sage don't have the Diploma in Payroll Management Course.  Will their Sage 50 Accounts E-learning be enough to get me through the ICB Payroll exam?

Hi Spark,

Just to add to Debsie, The Sage Instant Payroll Self-Teach course is a mere £55 and includes 6 months unrestricted use of the software,  The course is brilliant - ultra simple, highly detailed - and covers everything that the ICB Diploma exam needs.

Hi Chris

Really good information. Thankyou.

I have passed level 1 in bookkeeping and on my way to completing level 2 manual.

I would like to sign up to do the Payroll ICB diploma now as this meets my needs more cruically. Can I do this before I complete level 2 in computerised and  manual bookkeeping? I will complete these after.

Kind Regards

Craig
