My software took no NIC for Meena in month 1 however the model answers did. I can not change the method for deducting NIC from Directors. Can anyone advise?

Software used is IRIS PAYE MAster but the employee record only asks if employee is a director and which table, which is A. The calculation is out of my hands!

Many thanks!!

Hi Jennifer

Sorry for delay in answering, was hoping somebody with Iris would answer.  And, as you are experienced in Payroll you probably know a lot more than I do.  I can’t answer all your questions as I used Sage (through a training provider) and have never used Iris but I can maybe help with some of the more general things.

Software – Your software needs to be able to produce the reports asked for in the exam.  Check that Iris can do everything in the mocks/past papers.

CIS and software – The answer I would like to give would probably break the rules of not being allowed to discuss the actual exam questions so I think you should call or drop an email to ICB specifically about this, asking the same question you did here.  I’m assuming you don’t have a training provider otherwise I would have said that you will only be examined on the syllabus that you were taught.

Director NI – I’m sure that all Payroll software must be able to use either method for Director NI.  This will definitely be important for the exam as you might be given two directors with one on each method.  The method cannot be changed during the year so that’s maybe why you can’t change it in your software and you might need to go back and start over again.  I’m probably telling you stuff you already know here but you will need to know about the Director NI methods and they can be called different things – Annual/Cumulative or Alternate/Alternative/Pro-rata.  I don’t know how to use Iris but general info on Director NI (really heavy-going) from HMRC here:  http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/nitables/ca44.pdf  You might be able to find something shorter.  Maybe your Iris help files might cover it?

NIC Tables and Software – It’s perfectly all right for these to be slightly different by a very small amount as some might use the Table Method and some use the Exact Percentage Method.

I’m sending you Terrific Ts Mock but it was pre-RTI and CIS so doesn’t test these.

Hope that helps a bit.  Maybe someone with Iris will tell you something more specific.  Best wishes and good luck with your studies and your exam.

Helen
